Problems getting 7650 to pair with PC

OK, I've just a Nokia 7650. A 3Com USB adaptor and the PC suite software. I can get the 7650 to talk with the PC via the 3Com software, but I can't get the PC Suite software to recognise the connection.

Any hints?

Thanks.

It's possible the USB adaptor emulates a COM (serial) port. Look in the PC Suite configuration to see if you have a COM3 or COM4 and try those if present.

Right - this is a pain in the ass...

I have the same config as you and have managed to get it working, but the 3com Blutooth and the PC Suite are not the best of friends and don't work nicely together 😊

First thing to do is read the release notes text file that came with PC suite - there are some special instructions for 3com owners.

Here's the basic stuff I go through to make mine work:

1. take the 3com Bluetooth out of the windows startup folder - you don't want it starting as soon as you start windows

2. load up 3com bluetooth software - look up the port numbers for both the serial ports (host and something else - can't remember but it's obvious when you look)

3. make sure you're security setting for 3com software is set to the lowest level (v. important - won't work otherwise)

4. turn on bluetooth on your phone - make sure it is set to 'visible' - make sure 3com picks it up, then double click on the icon in 3com to make sure you get the 4 blue icons

5. Now load up PC Suite - will complain about no phones set up - don't worry

6. There now will be a icon like 2 triangles in the taskbar (near your clock) double click on this

7. tick the boxes that correspond to the two serial ports you noted down from 3com earlier. The software will probably complain - ignore it

8. 3com software will now pop up a box for you to choose which device to connect to - choose your phone 😃

9. make sure you confirm you connection/input any passwords you have set on the phone

10. The whole lot will think about it for a couple of seconds, then connect!

11. you may have to load PC suite again if it shut down after telling you there were no devices to connect to.

Note: If you're downloading midlets onto the phone - send them across as files from the 3com software (forget about PC suite entirely) - send the jad and jar separately - they appear as messages - then click on the jad to install it (When I've downloaded midlets with PC Suite - they sometimes don't work)

Oh, last point - If you disconnect the phone from pc Suite you will probably have to restart your computer (or log out and in on XP) if you want to reconnect - told you they don't play well together!!

If any of this fails you need to go through the following, in order, until it works

1. turn phone off and on again (sometimes thinks it's connected when it's not)
2. restart computer (PC suite doesn't disconnect properly and leaves all sorts of rubbish in memory)

Just so you know - I can get mine to connect every time now - so it's not as bad as it sounds! 😊
