6600 simply sucks

26 replies · 5,494 views · Started 25 May 2004

A warning to anyone thinking of getting the 6600 - simply dont do it. This phone is the biggest pile of cr*p I have ever used.

In only 8 days of owning it, it has already gained two dead pixels. Now if they were totally dead it would be one thing but they are flashing and it is really annoying. Who knows how many i'll have in 6 months time.

Plus the battery life stinks ! You wont even realise how much until you start using it. I'm charging twice a day at least - and its not a dodgy battery as I have tried 3 and always charge them overnight on first use. OK so I make quite a few calls and play the odd game on the train but even so this is SO poor.

Look elsewhere !

just cuz u have a bad phone does not mean all with end up with the same sort. i have mine for 6 months now from first i have no dead pixels at all. if u have warranty go change it. if not u shud have checked the phone before u got it. must be something in that phone that u did buy it right. so stop this anti 6600 thing

I'm on my third one now. But I've had this one for a good few months now and it's been alright. The battery seems like that at first but that's cos you've been using it quite a lot as it's a new toy.

Go and buy a 3310 if you dont like it,they have a long battery life and never get any dead pixels but oh,thats coz they dont do anything!

Timmer, sad to hear that u have the bad luck of getting a defective set and ur check at purchase missed the defects.

If you have warranty, suggest u change it like Jesal mentioned.

As for battery life, most new users leave many applications running in the background or the bluetooth connection on while playing with the phone. All these drain the battery unnecessarily.

The battery in my opinion gets better with age! Hey its not fantastic but with this sort of phone it never will be unless you have a 3foot square thing. As for dead pixels its quite common but thats what warranty is for.

Dissssssssssss-agree with your comments but each to their own.

No I didnt forget to turn it off. Whenever I stop using the phone I have always held in the menu button just to double check what is running.

And as for the other comments about missing the dead pixels when I bought it - it didnt have any when I bought it - they appeared a few days later.

I will take it to a Nokia service centre and get it fixed / replaced hopefully. Which is more likely - will they try and repair it or just fix it ? Just that I cannot be without it as I need it for work.

But one thing is for sure - I wont be buying Nokia again

I think the N6600 is a excellent phone, of corse it has it's bugs, but so does all nbew trechnology. As for battery length you get the same problem with all processor intesive devices, the battery technology just isn't availbe to the mass market to supprot the power needed. You look at any PDA or Laptop and the battery life is not fantastic. For thefunctionality available in the N6600, the battery life is excellent. By the sounds of having to charge it several times per day, well sounds liek dud battery, I use mine intensivley with BT on most of day and use GPRS allot, mine only needs charging on a night (when asleep)so no problems what soever.

Always been a big ericsson/SE fan is the past, but this is certainly changign my view, if Nokia can make more phones like this. Rather than gimicky phones then could well be converted.

Check ur battery contacts, turn off applications like screen savers. Agree with beunson that one possibiliry may be bad battery.

My 6600 could last me more than a day.

i love my 6600 and i also love my6230...

but if i had to choose it would be my 6600...

i cant complain... battery, screen, menus....

its all good baby..

Hello,
It seems that you are a Nokia 6600 user, therefore i would like to have your opinion regarding an option that splits long messages ( > 75 char) into two, three or more.
After composing the message, in case it fills more than 3 lines, i get a warning that it will be split into 2 parts. Moreover, if i send it to myself i receive it as one, whereas if send it to a Nokia 6210, i will reveive it into 2, 3 , 4 etc. Why on earth it splits messages?....furthermore, why it splits the message such a short length. Even the 6210 can receive much longer data...
Is there a way to disable the warning or extend the lenght??

Thanks in advance. Please reply to . I will try soon to join this forum. It looks interesting.

Hi Efthymios,

Well although this threat was not opened to discuss such issue, I believe, let's go with the answer. If you N6600 is splitting your SMS into 2 or more, even if you hadn't reached the 160 characters length, it is probably due to the fact that you are:

a. using the old firmware version
b. writting your SMS in a language with accents, special symbols (greek?), etc.

The old firmware "translates" special chars into a long string, which consumes SMS capacity (somehow). Hence, you can write a 100 chars SMS and have it being sent in 2, which obviously affects to your mobile phone bill.

Solution: get a firm upgrade for free in your official Nokia center.

> uuhhmnn.. could anybody pls tell me what 'dead pixels' are, and how to know if ur fone has them? am using N6600 too. btw, my battery works fine. lasts at least 2 days even with frequent use ie. games, calls, texts.. ThanQ

Why is everyone posting new topics in an old thread????????????

To "Post" in a thread you all had to press the "Reply" button, not the "Ask whatever you like here" button.

Dude, did u buy a genuine 6600 from a genuine Nokia center? THE PHONE IS THE BEST. It is not the phone which sucks, it is ..... ... sucks.

is it like a bit that keeps flashing on ur phone , i have 1 very very small dot or pixel maybe..lol that is constanly flashing on the left of clock is that a dead pixel? 🙄

i strongly disagree with you.... maybe you're a careless user thats why youre phone sucks... or simply you dont know how to use your 6600.... i love my 6600 its cutting-edge tech donyou think so? grrrrr...... 😃

There is something to be said for not blindly worshipping our 6600's. I love mine. I'm on my second and I've had my share of problems. There are issues w/ it, but it's an excellent phone. Can't we at least get this thread renamed or something. If I came here looking for opinions on the phone as a buyer I wouldn't be too impressed with it if all I saw was 6600 simply sucks. I'm sure a lot of us have days when we do think that about our phones, but then there are times when it's the best think since <insert object>.

Timmer,

Why don't you go buy a N6230 and stop complaining? It seems to be the best phone nowadays (http://www.xonio.com/features/feature_9652573.html).

Bye.

I challenge Nokia to EMAIL ME AND EXPLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY PHONE. PLEASE EMAIL ME AT [email protected].

You can always get phone insurance and wait for a firmware upgrade before you drop your phone 😉. The best thing to do is call nokia, then when the call is done WAIT STAY ON THE LINE and do the survey and talk to the supervisor. That's how they wake up b/c it gets reported and it costs them manpower to deal w/ irate people complaining about their failures. There may be a couple of different screens deployed in the 6600's (this happens w/ a lot of mobile devices), but maybe not...so I wouldn't call it a threat to everyone. There's a lot of things I love about this phone and there are a lot I dislike immensly, but it's not as terrible as people sometimes make it out to be.

Well since starting this thread I now have FOUR flashing pixels. I took it to a Nokia service centre who told me that they have been told by Nokia not to replace or fix the screens as it is normal.

After argueing that this is totally unreasonable I eventually left still with FOUR flashing dead pixels.

I phoned Nokia where I got a similar reply.

This is totally unacceptable.

My firmware is the latest. According to them its normal to have a spot. They even told me that other users also experiencing the same. I dunno if that's only their way to comfort me that i'm not alone.

Yeah there maybe a couple of screens developed for 6600 but who can tell it?

That's just a matter of taking them apart, but for a phone to change its physical operation while under a year warranty is not acceptable. There may be something in the warranty that came with your phone that limits your rights specifically regarding dead pixels, but usually when a product works and then develops a problem it is defective and should be covered under warranty. It's not that difficult to sue someone, your contract may try to tell you otherwise; you may even need to send an arbitration letter. Just exhaust the usual channels and get your mobile operator or whoever covers your phone and is in dispute with you to state and annotate:

Customer and Provider have exhaustively attempted to negotiate in good faith regarding <issue> and have been unable to find an acceptable remedy.

Get the name and customer ID of the person who did this. This will jump you past a lot of hurdles because you escape any arguments about preclusive arbitration, etc.

Also you can threated to drop your contract with your provider. This is risky considering the credit risks, but it puts the onus on them to collect or provide service and it releases you from the termination adjudication sections of most contracts. What that means in laymans terms is that once you are free of the contract and they agree that they can't solve your problem you are free to join a class. This is the last thing a mobile operator or manufacturer wants because even if a class was one country (ex: US), the total of the class would be ALL owners who don't opt out (opt out model) therebye forcing an enormous settlement.

You should also investigate your particular phone's history to see if it is indeed new or not. There may be some 'lemon laws' regarding it which will at least let you get a different type of phone.

Be persistent. I know you have tried, but it's not acceptable for a product to break and the manufacturer to claim it is normal. Developing dead pixels is not normally disclaimed under tft or other device warranties, but is considered a manufacturing defect. Look at your warranty.

Good luck
