fromw hat ive been able to tell
eg if your outside, and its bright and sunny
you wont notice that the backlight is on, but it actually is on and taking up battery life
therefore if the light sensor is on, and it sensors large amounts of light, eg your outside, it will turn the backlight off to save you bqattery life.
Also, the Minimum and Maximum setting for the Light Sensor helps the phone decide how much sunlight is needed for it not to turn on the backlight.
For example, if you want maximum economy, it will switch off the backlight when there only a little external light, Minimum means that it takes a bit more and of course, switching it off means the light will always be on.
it works shine a light at it
I find that to see the difference most obviously, set it to maximum and then go outdoors in the daytime on a sunny day. You can see that the phone won't bother to turn on the back/side/upsidedown light. If you cover the sensor with your finger the light... uh... lights up.
The effect is not seen if you just put it under an office light or something. I guess that's not bright enough for the phone to shut of the light.
Well weve establish what this does then
and if you dont beliebe the ppl here go try and test it yaself.
Its pretty cool actually because when your down the street, or what not if your downt here for a while and ya using ya phone theres no need for that light to be on, so save yaself some battery and use it.
