No Caller ID on Nokia 6600 ?

8 replies · 3,197 views · Started 30 May 2004

I'm currently having a caller id problem with my 6600 on Orange Pay as You Go in the UK.

Since getting the phone 3 days ago I have never had any incoming numbers show up. Every call is "no number"

I have tried the following so far :

Sim Update from Orange
Deleting all duplicates Contact Nos
Turning GPRS off
Putting +44 (international code) in all contact nos.

None of these have worked...Orange have currently logged it as a technical query and promised to get back to me

Can anyone advice me of any further things to try ?

TIA

You could change your Operator. 😉

This problem seems to be one that only Orange users have. I don't know what Orange does wrong or differently, but it is something for sure.

Does your phone have "generic" firmware or is it an Orange 6600? If "generic", maybe you could also ask Orange or a Nokia authorized [Orange] service center flash it with the Orange version (which probably has tweaks/settings/parameters that work with Orange properly)?

I've tried everything

calling from a phone that is'nt in my contacts

calling from a phone that was manually entered

& calling from a phone that had its entry IR'd from my old phone

the result is always the same :

I just get Call (blank) as the phone rings

then, if it a missed call, it just says "no number" when clicking on show.

I think it may be a Sim card problem ?

The problem I have with orange 6600 contacts is that if the number is enetered with an international prefix it with only ID it with text messages, which use that format, but not phone calls, which don't. But if I have it stored without the international prefix then the phone call will be ID'd but not the text. My old 7650 used to be able to display no matter which was used.

Hi

Are you getting names on incoming text messages ?

The +44 fix seems a bit of a popular one, but I believe is a myth.
Nokia phones only use the last 7 digits of a number to recognise a phone. Go on, try it - dial the LAST 7 digits of a number in your contacts directory, and the name will pop up, even thought it will not connect.

Incoming text messages are OK - it is just calls that are blank (that is all calls whether they are in my contacts or not)

I've just had the software updated and fully reset at a Nokia Repair Centre and it still does'nt work.

Put the sim card in another older Nokia phone and hey presto everything is alright !! It seems to be 6600/Sim Card incompatability or something strange.

The phone is only 9 days old but Orange will not replace it or refund it until their tech services have looked into it. They would'nt even let me try the sim in another Nokia 6600 !!

So far Tech Services have known about this for a week & managed to do Bu g *er all about it !!

You cannot call them and it takes five days for them to ring you if you're lucky.

LoL

I think N/A's advice above is going to be the best !!

Rant Over 😊

I just need to be patient !!

Some further info :

Now the weird bit :-

Put my new Sim in my sons Orange phone and everything is OK ?
Put my son's sim in my new Nokia 6600 and everything is OK also !!!???

So I have some weird incompatability between the Phone & Sim Card :?

Does anyone know what may cause this ?

Any help appreciated

TIA

I wonder if it has something to do with using a sim enabled for line 2 (As the 6600s is, and your sons may not be)?.
