By the way, where did you hear or read about the dark screen. I really can
only find one possible explanation. In France the Sendo X is displayed
behind glass. It is a real phone and not a dummy, so therefore it is
possible that the backlight was off.

Anyway, I can assure you that the screen is not dark.

Marijke

Hey Dan ask about that ram situation and a FIRM release date. Thanks

have just asked about a uk date. shall check again about the ram. ive been advised that the 32mb is actually eeprom not ram. ram isnt generally quoted at all

hey dan its nirvana here. the 30mb on the sendo x are comparable to the memory on your hardisk, were applications are actually saved. the RAM (being a measly 4/5MB) is the memory upon which programs are actually run. big difference.

hey nirvana:

why the name change?

thats what i was trying to say above. but its not actaully hd though is it. it some sort of burnable mem? back in my day, stuff like that used to be called EEPROM. :?

ive bounced it back to Marijke! 😉

The Sendo X technical specification PDF says:

Internal RAM: 16MB (approx 6MB free for applications)
Internal storage memory: 64MB
Internal memory for customer content: Up to 32MB (approx)

The first of these is obviously real RAM, the second is presumably the size of the on-board FLASH memory, and the third is the amount of that FLASH not taken up by system content (presumably the OS).

6MB doesn't sound too bad, but obviously that will drop as you run things, and it isn't clear whether that figure includes the space occupied by the standard applications.

Release date for Germany,UK and Netherlands will be END of June, beginning of July!

There is NO end-user version out, they just started delivering small amounts to italy & spain beginning of this week.

So the end-user version may have "more" RAM, but not more than 6 MB! Thats means most of the N-GAGE games will NOT work!

Couldn;t you possibly add more ram to the internals yourself, like they do with some pda's?

No, you cannot add more RAM. I haven't heard of any PDAs that allows any do-it-yourself RAM upgrades either (they, like this phone, might have a memory card slot for additional storage memory, though).

skyfox is right there N/A. You can upgrade the RAM on the ipaq or the xda(II) for example, although it has to be done by a specialist (there is a company that actually does these kind of things).

However I don't think it's possible on the X...

Hello,

Can someone who has bought the phone comment on the voice quality please? Winalex may has already addressed this, but, it is in French. Sorry, I cannot read French. Thanks!

Well, theres only one way to find out. If anyone has one, and are feeling, I dunno.. a little 'Devil may Care' would you be able to open one up and take pictures of the internals. Sendo are a relatively small company as phone company's go, so chances are, they would be using industry standard parts, not memory that is shaped and formed to the c ontours of the sendo. This means that the Ram (as it's totally wiped each time the phone is off) could be replaced by expensive other phone ram (perhaps the N Gage's?) that is larger in capacity.

Just a thought. Be a good project for someone. Just think of the benifits!

it's not possible to replace the ram chip of 16 mb to an 32 mb chip?

if we close all open aplications we can have more than 6 mb ram? it's to poor, i'm dissapointed, very disapointed

Don't you believe it. One of Sendo's gripes against and reasons for taking the makers of the Orange SPV (and Microsoft) to court was that it had 'copied' the minaturisation of the components that Sendo have pioneered. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find that they have 'customised' some of the key parts. And the RAM in question is almost certainly surface mounted and probably in the form of a micro BGA, you'd need very specialist equipment to attempt the change and would probably destroy the circuitry in the process.

Also, don't be too sure that by publishing photo's of the internals that you aren't breaking any copyright laws, it's not unheard of for Sendo to take legal action you know 😉 😃

you can buy it in germany now for around 450-460 euro, which is not bad price

Bullshit, you CAN'T buy it here and you may not buy it within some weeks, since Germany is not on their roll-out list.

Btw: You can't buy it on expansys either, you CAN buy it in Netherlands at BelCompany for about 799,00 EUR unsubsidized WITH Route 66 bundle.

They do not sell it without this bundle!

you CAN, the release date is 4.7. even on www.sendo.de! 😊

So you have absolutly NO idea .... www.sendo.de get their "informations" from Sendo Birmingham, which is in fact THE headquarter. At the moment they (Sendo Birmingham) decide, when the X will be released to Germany, UK and the rest.

There is NO final release date for these countries and the stated websites only give you a date, which has been announced by sendo.de - which is in fact talk@bout communications - weeks ago. They are the german distributors of Sendo.

Sendo Birmingham decides and they simply don't have final release dates for Germany & UK at the moment.

In fact, they don't have enough devices to fulfill the rollout plans in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands.

This is one reason, you can't buy the X at expansys or any other "international" site now ... and I fear, it will take some more weeks until you can buy it outside these countries to import it to Germany or UK ...
