Nokia 6600 Message Alert Problem

17 replies · 19,613 views · Started 01 June 2004

Apologies if this has been posted before, bit I can't find any reference to it. Has anyone has any similar problems with their Nokia 6600, I'm on V 3.42 16-10-03 NHL-10 software release, so maybe upgrading might solve the problem, although it only starting happening recently.

The problem is that I can't get my phone to vibrate or ring when I receive a new message ... not matter what message tone, volume or profile I use or modify. All it does is display the envelope (middle right, beside bluetooth dot), and doesn't even display "you have 1 new message". Also When the Clock screensaver comes on and I get a new message in no longer shows the envelope under the clock.

As this only started happening could it be a software bug ... would the latest software version resolve this .... any ideas ?

Hi,

u may have installed a buggy third-party app which interferes and/or prevents your message alerts from behaving normally.

Try uninstalling your apps, one by one, and check if it turns back to normal.
If not, backing up your data and formatting your phone in order to get a 'fresh' mobile should solve this.

Regards,

Ozzy is probably right on that one. I recall reading in one forum something about message alert or vibrate not working in silent profile in the earlier firmware and that this had been fixed in the 4.09.1 version, but then again I can't get a lot of things to install in 4.09.1 that people have claimed they have installed so unless you need the extra features (it's summarized somewhere) then you're better off troubleshooting your phone. It could be something to do w/ your service provider, but doubtful. It might be an idea switch messaging from the mmc to the sim and see if you have any differences (remember to copy back). you could also try a different mmc. IIRC you can run w/ no mmc. I don't know if it's recommended, but if you want to try that before going to the codes (after you contact your provider) then it's probably worth a shot.
Good luck

Hi! I can't believe that we have the same prob... but I fixed mine .. i just had to hard reset the fone.. to do this I suggest that you transfer all your data to your MMC then remove the MMC and press *#7370# and it will do the trick!! Holler back if it worked for you. 😊 Btw we also have the same version.... And they say 4.xx version won't allow you to install some third party apps so I think it is not worth the upgrade..

does this mean I have to backup APN info and other configuration data aswell?

I management to fix my problem by deleted a game I'd installed (thanks ozzy_1971) and removing my bluetooth headset and re-pairing. But I don't always get the "1 New Message" message so I might try *#7370#

Dear 'Citizen7',

I'm glad that uninstalling this game has fixed your problem, or, at least a part of it.

As far as I know backing up access points is not possible.
But u may easiely get them back via SMS from your gsm network (pls check).

If there are still some problems left I'd also suggest a hard reset of the phone.

Hard reset does not have a code but there is no need to mention here how to do it since it is one of the threads at the top of the 6600 sub-forum.

Good luck,

Hello there everyone, I am very new to this forum thing and the reason why i got here is because i am searching for a solution that might solve the problem i am experiencing with my phone. First is related also to the VIBRATING thing whenever an sms message comes. No vibration is being released by the phone which makes me unnotified if ever a message comes. I have tried the hard restarting thing that deleted all the info in my phone memory. Anyway, I have back-uped all the files on my PC. However, after the restoring thing, it seems to me that nothing changed. The vibrator didn't function at all.

The second thing is my difficulty in playing .3gp and mp4 extensioned video clips. I thought, my nokia 6600 is equipped with a player capable of showing files in such extension, but i was wrong. So, if any of you know a player by which i can download to be able to view video clips in such extension and is being downloaded for free, please notify me. I will be so thankful for anything that will be posted.

So, those were some of the problems i am experiencing with my phone knowing that it is run on the same platform and software version with yours. Im just wondering, how will i be able to manage it.

Anything pertaining to it will be taken appreciatively. By the way, i should have posted another forum thing for this one, but i found that the creator of this post has the same problem with me. I apologize in advance!

Hi, I had the same problem right now...
I browsed the forum, opened related links to tabs in my browser...
And I was too lazy to read all that...

So, I discovered the solution by myself...

NO FORMAT IS NEEDED!

I spent 1,5hour trying to solve the problem..
I had experienced that problem with the latest version of the firmware from my older nokia 3320.. Not a Symbian ..

I first thought it was with the SMS spamkiller app that I had installed, removed it just for sure and realized it happened just because I switched profiles before going to bed..

Then, I read somewhere here in the forums that the profile settings loaded in ram could be different from the ones that I had saved in my phone memory...

My profiles where doing everything different from what was showing they would do..
So, I decided do change all my settings in each profile to something different.. I screw them all...
Rebooted the phone.. They begin to work the way I had set...
I changed the settings to match what I was expecting to use... and before swapping profiles.. reboot again! ...

Now, it works ok...
Maybe it was something wrong with the plain text files that holds profiles informations, maybe it was something that was in ram... I don't know...

First of all I thought of deleting or cloning some profile files... But I was afraid of my phone not booting anymore.. 😃

Reinstalling SMS spamkiller I discovered that this app causes vibrate on receive a msg to stop working ...

I am having the same problem with my 6620. Its only a problem when you try to use any other MMC card besides the one that came with the phone. I just paid $80 for a da*n 1GB Kingmax card and cant use it 'cause of this sh*t.

The problem is this. The phone doesnt give any alerts whatsoever. That means I dont get alerts for Voicemail, Text Messages, MMS, Missed Calls, NOTHING. All you get is the little mail icon in the upper right corner of the screen, no beeps, no flashing lights.

I have formatted my card twice now and nothing helps, not even changing the memory in use to Phone Memory. It is NOT my card 'cause I have tried other brands that do the same thing. Whats going on here. Please someone help.

I am also Facing the problem till yesterday it was ok and today i download NOKIA LIFEBLOG V 1 and then after that i am facing this problem.

Vicky, are you using the MMC that came with the phone? I have a 1GB and a 64MB and they both have this problem. Its only when I use the original Nokia branded 32MB card that everything works just fine. I wonder if a 128MB from Nokia would work?

Maybe we should try resetting the entire phone.

Hey. I fixed it!!! Heres what I did:

-Turned off the phone
-Put in my Kingmax 1GB MMC.
-Turned it back on, but holding down the Talk (Green) Key+number 3 Key+star*key all at the same time as I turned it back on. (This does a full format reset on the entire phone for those who dont know).
-Presto! I now get all my message alerts using the phone memory!!!

Keep in mind, I had to reinstall all my apps, settings, etc. So, please think ahead before you do this. And, I think this is the biggie. Only use your phone memory for messages! I think the switching back & forth between the phone & MMC memory is what screws it up.

Thanks for listening to be whine, everyone...Peace
