ok this is my first post, and it unlikely there will be many more (nothing personal just to many forums to keep up with right now 😊 )
I do own an N-gage and had this mod forwarded to me by a friend. needless to say 5 minutes later the n-gage had a hole in the back. I did the mod slightly differently though. rather than going in from the outside and risk destroying the speaker i stripped the n-gage down, removed the speaker and drilled through from the inside. this has the added bonus that you can leave the back cover on and drill both holes at the same time and ensure that every thing lines up nicely.
Ismail- I can confirm this mod works well providing you can line up the hole with your ear

It looks cool, but I'm quite worried about the effect of the electro-magnetic emissions :icon4:. What dangers could they cause? :?

You are breaking the case of the N-Gage, and also holding it against your head in different manner to that intended by Nokia, and as such the SAR rating of the phone will probably rise due to the different positioning of the phone's antenna in relation to your face."

By the way guys, if anyone else wants to separate the speaker from the phone before drilling, you need a T6 torx screwdriver to unscrew the screws.

but seriously, the hole you're drilling is into a compartment that allready has holes in it to allow sound to escape, above to hole you drill is the speaker complete with its coils and magnet (no different to a set of head phones) that will act as shielding. so unless you spend the entire day with it strapped to your head (and lets face it the battery life on the N-gage isn't that great so this aint going to be happening) i recon you should be safe . if you're still worried then i suggest the immediate construction of a tin foil hat, and never place you phone in a pocket that is located near your genitals

I got mine with a compaq ipaq replacement battery. so if any of you also own an older ipaq with a weak battery you could kill two birds with one stone
I followed sjoerd's instructions, and with the T6 torx it was a piece of cake. No need for pictures, they would just be the same sjoerd's. But thanks all of you. The "Rear-talkin' DIY-mod" was the reason that I finally bought an N-Gage.

I did the mod following the pics and had the Beast apart in no time..
Used a Dremel with bit attachment with everything clamped down tight....
A Buzz.... A Little bit o' buffing and Voila'
i also glued a small piece of black...(wait for it) panty hose over the inner side of the hole to keep out dust..
I am Rear Talkin...... !

Hi, great idea. I was looking for something to glue on as a dust-filter (like at the side'talkin-hole) and the idea with the panty hose has worked excelently.
got my n-gage 2 days ago and alltho this sounds realy simple i think im gonna wait a few days untill i do it because:
a) I dont know how the hole in the back would look
b) I have no idea how 2 open it up n take the speaker out b4 i drill, without that small-as$ screw driver 😉
