6600 - Connection to Orange GPRS on startup

Hi

I've just got my 6600 on Orange unlocked to all networks. When I put another SIM card into it and start the phone up, it tries to connect to Orange GPRS - and when it fails, it pops up "Select access point:" and a list of access points, which it then attempts a connection to when you hit Select.

My question is, what on earth is making my phone do this? I have only installed FExplorer and Wireless IRC [trial] on top of the usual orange software. If any one has any ideas please let me know.

Also, what programs are started when the phone is rebooted? Where is the Symbian equivalent of "Start>Programs>Startup"? I'm holding out that there is something there which is causing this.

Any help, most appreciated. If it is important my software version is 4.09.1 26/02/04.

Cheers

check if gprs is set up on your other sim cards! i have seen this with another 6600 (not unlocked) and this happens and when i put my sim card in it it works fine cause i have it set up. If its not that then i dont have a clue.

Did you install the Orange Update/Backup feature(s)? I think there is a program that gets installed and run on startup. For some reason it dials-up over GPRS when you boot - what it's doing I don't know.

I can't remember what the filename is (it might have had the word 'remote' in it?)... a word of warning though - don't do a hard reset to get rid of it as I did this and ended up losing my Line 2! Had to get the phone replaced after only having it about a week!

Ah, that could well be it. Damn you Orange. And I can't get rid of that "feature" either can I?

I don't have line 2 so hopefully that wouldn't affect me if I did need to hard reset. But I see that very much as a last resort - just need to find a way to kill this program.....

Lo mate

i had the same probs with an unlocked orange 6600 with my o2 sim card, every few mins it would pop up say select access point.

i ended up resetting it by dialing *#7780# it reset it to original orange settings, so i deleted all the orange mms and gprs stuff and imported the o2 stuff from the nokia website, now all is working fine

Well I managed to fix it, and that was by getting a full internet GPRS connection with my other (irish) sim card, once it asked for that it was happy - and so am i!

By Full Internet I mean not just WAP, a proper internet access point.
