Hello all. This is my first post in these forums. They seem to be very informative and helpful so far.
I have a p900 and Oulook 2003. For the past 2 months I ahev had NO problems syncing everything with outlook. All of a sudden on June 7th ( after a MS update ) , I started to have a problem that a few people have posted in the p800 forum.
FOr some reason while trying to sync the CONTACTS portion the sync software locks up and had locks my PC. I am running Winblows XP svc pk1. As in the posts about the p800 I have narrowed the problem down to syncing the contacts. I ahve tried just about everything to get the problem resolved.
1) Removing / re-installing the sync software 2.3.1 ( DID NOT WORK )
2) Fixing and then creating a new outlook PST file ( DID NOT WORK )
3) Using system restore to go back to a previous restore point before 6-6-2004
(DID NOT WORK)
4) Digging through the resgistry to remove all vestige info for the sync software
( STILL DID NOT WORK )
At this point I am at a total loss for what the problem may be! :?
I really rely on my phone to keep my contacts up to date so I am hoping that maybe some of you have been encountering the same problem and maybe have had more luck. 😊
I saw a post about new sync software being available and I am willing to give that a try. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Thanks in advance... - Viper001
Just am update I have tried the latest sync software: 2.4.1
STILL no luck!
Same problem. when syncing outlook contats the system just hangs.
I have also just tried this with another laptop as well with the same outcome.
IM not sure if this is a M$ problem, but it is sure annoying. :frown:
Has anyone else had this problem?

This is my first post as well.
Iam having exactly the same problem too!
I have tried everything including restoring the file changes that SE Suite makes to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Ericsson to a time when it did all work.
I also installed the most up to date firmware from the SE site CDA162004/7 R4A01.
I even re-formated my hard disk with a clean version of XP and just put on Office XP and the SE suite - still locks up the machine when syncing contacts - Anyone please help!!!??

I am happy to see that at least I am NOT the only one with this strange problem.
It Just started happening to me last week.
I was reading the p800 forum and saw that someone there was having similar problems as well. I ahve tried his work around, but have had no seccess.
UPDATE:
I was just on the phone with SonyEricsson Tech support and they told me the following:
The latest firware available for the p900 from the SonyEricsson site may have some problems. They recommend that I re-run the SUS ( Sony Ericsson Update Service ) and select RECOVERY from the menu. This should bring back my phone to the previous firmware revision. After doing this I should then try to update the phone once again to test and see if it works.
I am only posting this here to convey what I was told. I AM going to give this a try in the next few days, however I DO NOT recommend that anyone try this UNLESS you have a FULL backup of your phone data available.
SonyEricsson did confirm the fact that there have been many complaints regaring the latest firmware so that may be the explaination as to why there are problems.
The firmware that I have on my phone is R5B02 for the organizer.
SUCCESS!
I also spoke to SE Tech Support yesterday, a v. helpful guy called Dave. He recommended removing the latest Suite and USB drivers and installing the original Suite that came in the box with the phone. This still did not work!
He said they had a had a few problems with some of the latest Hotfixes from the windows update site and suggested I roll back the fixes and then install the new Windows Beta service pack 2, available from the Microsoft TechNet site.
I did this and then re-installed the original Suite and BINGO! - worked first time - just like it always did.
The SP2 download is almost 300meg but it has the advantage of XP's new fire wall, which seems to be working very well for me. Even though it is a beta, it is the final release candidate and seems pretty stable on my machine.

HMM that is truely interesting!
I suspected that the problem was directly related to a possible hotfix, becasue everything was working fine untill one of the M$ updates was installed on my machine.
Can you please provide the version # of the original suite of software that was shipped with your phone?
I too will try out the SP2 RC. That is right after I get back from a business trip 😉
I cant run the risk that the SP is goign to hose my presentations.
Hi
I have a similar but different problem. After installing P900 and sync station via a USB hub I get random blue screen crashes of XP. My laptop was new and clean and I keep it right up to date re patches and fixes from Microsoft, before this started happening. I have upgraded and reinstalled the P900 several times including bypassing the USB hub and the same problem persists.
When I disconnect the synch station there are no more problems, connect it with or without phone and they come back.
The crash messages indicate XP has a driver problem but cannot identify the driver.
I have given up attaching the synch station/phone until I fix this but have no idea what to try next.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Regards

You may want to try some of the things we have suggested above.
It seems that all of my problems started right after a Microsoft hotfix that was applied. Also SonyEricsson apparently has to make an updated version of the PC SYNC software to work properly with all the latest firmware releases.

UPDATE....
I have just updated to the latest version of the Sony Firmware (R5B02) from SUS and I still have the same problem ever after a total fresh reformat of my system.
I have no idea how sony messed up the firmware to no longer sync contacts in outlook, but I hope they find a solution soon.
If ANYONE has a workaround that works please post it!
It is killing me day to day having to do double entry of new contact in outlook and on my P900.
Thanks in advance! 😮
Hi Folks,
I found a post on another Forum which recommended something silly - but the damn thing actually works!
So - i have the same constellation: P800, Win XP, Outlook 2003, and my sync used to hang.
Well there seems to be a problem with the number of contacts that are getting synched at a time. So if this is your first sync - move all your Contacts from your original Contacts folder into a new spare one. Then start moving a few contacts from your spare folder into your original Contacts folder - syncing after each move....
In this way, you "ration" out the contacts that are getting synched at a time. This worked for me.
No excuse for how this software should actually be working but hey - it beats having to double entry in the P800 and Outlook 2003 - especially when that is exactly the problem you bought the phone to solve 😊
I am having excatly the same problem. I have seen somehwere that this is due to a MSFT hotfix but no one seems to have an answer execpt install the SP2 beta whihc doesn't seem to be stable yet. I'm presuming this must be a frequent problem out there but can't get a reply from Sony on their email submission form. I'd be grateful if anyone has an answer.
