Out of memory

I have installed Opera web browser, but I get most of the time Out of memory errors:

Not enough free memory to start Opera!
Opera was unable to free up enough memory (2.4 Mb) on startup. This may have failed due to the following reasons:
1. When using the phone, the memory can become fragmented (the amount of fre memory decreses). To solve this, try rebooting your phone.

2. An active bluetooth or infrared connection is transferring data. To solve this, wit fo rthe transfer to finish or close it.

3. Some other third-party applications are running in the background and does not allow the operating system to fre memory by closing them. To solve this, try closing the applications manually.

The system currently has 2008kb free memory.

Memory details from tools / management
shows that 916 kB Mem is in use and 3177 KB memory is free.

what can I do to increase free memory?

Simple one I know!

Why not hold down the menu button and close any other apps which are running at the time?

The apps might be taking up "memory"?

Yup I do that too, but appman like on a PC clears and compresses ram. Is that right? U can do that in appman too, close all applications.

And not that recommended too since, we dont want to delete but rather uninstall. But if pertain to pictures ghostdog is right, its a ram deficiency not storage.
