7650 Picture Quality!?!

11 replies · 3,639 views · Started 24 September 2002

Just an thought but....

The pictures Ive taken on my 7650 are not exactly the best quality and when I zoom in Ive noticed JPEG artefacts.

Im not expecting miracles (as its only a small cheap camera) but the photos seem to be subject to large JPEG compression and the artefacts are very noticeable!

My question is, is this compression handled/added by the camera and could another app. Be coded to specify the level of compression thus improving the quality?

Anyone got any ideas?

yes, i agree... there seems to be to much compression. And, I know this has also been said before so you proberly read older messages. I wish I could choose my own compression settings....

😃 Good Idea, I'll email them tonite!

btw, a new version of Camera FX is due out in the next week or so....

Zooming with this tiny cam is poor quality as u all know , but why didn't Nokia think of making it a tiny digital cam it would saved alot of thinking for us i own a digital cam and when zooming with to take a picture a wonderful picture comes out so u see Nokia doesn't think %100 satisfatoin to its cutomer so we poor people start coming up with ideas all
night long  .

anyhow no harm done yet 😃 !
Plus i don't think they'll develop any tiny digita phone cams yet ( THEY SHOULD TEAM UP WITH FUJI ON THIS ONE ) 😃 .

this is gonna sound stupid but in alot of forums the easiest answer sometimes alludes people, you have Tunred the camera settings up to high quality right??

Anyhow does CameraFX help to enhance the quality of the photos?

Simply put, No. 😃

It provides some nice features such as digital (not optical) zoom, (alot of features that are'nt really much use as they can be done using a standard imaging program on the PC) but overall it produces lower quality and smaller (160x120?) pictures.

Maybe it will improved as its versions mature...

Forget CameraFX. It only produces 160 x 120 pictures, the quality is disastrous compared with the original 640 x 480 in high quality. Dont know why a foto software reduces the foto quality! And its not able to rotate pictures ...
A digital zoom does nothing else than enlargen the pixels ... the same as if you zoom the finished pictures. Makes no sense at all.
I was so foolish to buy CameraFX ... hope an update will improve the software so I can reinstall it ...

Hmm.. well.. I wouldn't quite agree there,bro.. While zooming and aiming, the zoom function does,as you say, only enlargen the pixels. However it smoothes things out on the picture itself.. 😉 Of course, the original Nokia prog-pictures ARE indeed much better, but CameraFX isn't all rubbish either.. 😉

Convergence in technology always leads to inferior products. The 7650 is a phone. The fact that it has a digital camera with it is a bonus. If you want to take high quality photos, use a digital camera, not a phone! Personally, I'm very impressed with it, especially using night mode where a normal digital camera requires a flash. :shocked!:

I tottaly agree with Merlin. 7650 is a phone and the camera is here to make the phone better. It was not designed to be proffesional camera its just made for fun. 8)
