Some 7610 Q's

Hola, commo estas?

Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Dr, Who? and I am considering getting a 7610 and have a few questions for the great and the good assembled on this forum.

I currently have an MSSmartphone and I was wondering if anyone can give me a 1st hand comparison of Symbian (particularly the 7610) vs MSSmartphone2002, 2003 or 2003SE, i.e. menu speeds, stability, ability as a phone (sound quality, signal strength, bluetooth stack, GPRS stack), anything else?

Also, what is the battery life like on the 7610. In real use what is the standby time and talk time?

Anything else I need to know?

Peace, Out

Who?

I had an Orange SPV before which runs Windows smartphone edition , i just bought 7610 so ill give you a quick comparison:
both are a bit slow to start up ,but spv is slower . same for menus .
7610 has much more functions etc.. than spv much more apps available.
sound quality and signal strength are same , but spv speaker is a bit louder i think.
battery life is fine , even watching a few hours of video , games etc.. ,i get a full day.. normal use you can get 2-3 days i guess, spv much less.
built in browser on spv is better.

hope that answers most of your questions...

Cheers ntn, you are the person I have been looking for!

I am a very low-level user but I like shiny new toys. The browser issue is quite a big deal to me, 'cos that is my favourite smartphone app. In my experience adding third party bells and whistles destabilises the MS Smartphones so generally i run plain vanilla. How do you find integration between programs on the 7610 - this is one of the criticisms of the series 60 platform that I have seen? How do you find the build quality of the 7610? Oh, the agony of choice!

Who?

if you add opera on 7610, you get much better browsing than on ms smartphone.
dont understand what u meen by integration between programs????
build quality is fine , except for the fact that lense is no very well protected....
I would definitely choose the 7610 , if not for the functions than for the style : all the ms phones are just plain bland...

War😉

True, most of the MS Smartphones are UGLY. And BIG. However there is a new HTC phone coming out called the C500. It is small (smaller than the 7610! - Just) and has a 200 MHz processor. Ssswwwweeeettt. It is also meant to be a low power processor, so hopefully battery-life will be improved over the SPV range - it could barely be worse! So I have a straight choice between the C500 and 7610. I guess I will have to try and get my hands on each of the handsets and give them a testdrive.

I s'pose by integration I mean things like on the MS phone you can click a link in an email and it will automatically open in IE. I am assuming if the 7610 relies on 3rd party s/ware this sort of integration will be lacking?

All the key, built-in applications on the 7610 come from Nokia with the exception of RealPlayer and Movie Director, but they're still pretty well integrated to Messaging, Gallery, etc.

I thought Opera was the way to go on the 7610 and if that is the case (and in other instances) do the apps still run into each other smoothly?

Opera is slightly better than integrated browser but both do regular html.
i have not experienced any conflicts between apps if that what u mean

Cheers chaps, still umming and ahhing at the mo. I'll let you know what I think when I have seen both the handsets.

Peace

How exactly do I uninstall the symbian apps? It says in the 7610 manual to select the program->options->delete, but the delete function is not avaliable when I go to that menu. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know about yours, but mine had this 'Manager' under the 'Tools' section. I uses that to uninstall/remove.
