I just got a new 6600 with T-Mobile. First, I must say that I'm very impressed with the phone and the service. I switched from Sprint CDMA and they don't even come close to offering a phone like the 6600. This is also my first Nokia and I've found that the number of accessories available is awesome.
Anyway, I've had my phone about a week and noticed a dead or stuck pixel. It is always a light blue color. I've read the other posts about pixels, and this is not an unusual problem. Other than that, the phone operates perfectly. I was wondering, what are the chances that I will see more dead pixels over time?
I bought the phone online, and the vendor will hopefully replace it, but I would not want to replace it and actually get one that is in worse shape. You know, go from one dead pixel to 2 or 3, or have a phone with other probs. How have other's phones been holding up over time?

I had one when i first got the phone 10 months ago,(a white one) and recently i have noticed another but blinking red,(this one may have been there all along tho as it is hardly noticable at all).
Mines got 3, not that impressed with the new screens, my old 7650 still hasnt got 1!!!
The 7650 screen is viewable at much wider angles, and is only slightly less bright.
TBH I think the new screens are a step back, the colour depth is hardly a problem for 99% of users.
TMO is pretty happy to swap out phones. First you have 14 days to return it so they'll just give you one. Then, if you come up w/ any malfunction that they can't solve (they wanted to send me one for not being able to delete files in the inbox) they'll send you one. I don't think they are the most educated tech support in the world, but give them a call and you might be surprised w/ how generous they can be.

I called TMO and they said they would replace it, but would only send me a refurb. Usually, I'm not that concerned about refurbs, but these screens seem pretty sensitive. Does it matter that I purchased from an indirect agent?
I guess I could take it to a TMO store and see what they would do.
I have one too, although it seems to change place everytime I turn the phone on...oO;
The one I have is near the middle, but it is in the top 25% of the screen. During normal usage, it's hard to see. It only really shows up with full screen photos. Since it's a light blue color, and I usually use blue colored themes, it often is invisible. That's why I'm debating whether I should just live with it, or try another phone.
I more worried it may turn into one of those distracting blinking pixels.
Also, my 6600 sometimes restarts on its own, doesn't happen alot but can be annoying.
I called the place I bought it, a1wireless.com, and they are sending me another one.
My phone rebooted sometimes and it just needed new software which was covered by nokias year warranty, then it broke again this time it was the power button broke. And now i've just taken it in for 4 colourful pixels and there fixing it for me now they said it'll take an hour as it just needs new software. So dont panic your screen probley is'nt even broke! Hope i've help ya.

Its called the nokia 6600 user manual and its called page 131. It is normal to get bright or discolored dots on the active matrix TFT display, only if you have more than three dots you should maybe consider replacing it.

Respectfully, that's complete lunacy. 'Thin Film Transistor' screens should be flawless (regardless of lighting source ex:transflexive), when distributed to end users. Vending one with stuck pixels is poor marketing and it only points to bad quality control. Having stuck pixels when you receive any TFT device is usually due to the company contracting with a manufacturer at a cheaper price with low quality controls and accepting the terms that some of the screens may be defective. It is not 'normal' it is a defective screen. Your legal rights regarding this are a grey area as I haven't seen it litigated and there are different places that the right to recovery for stuck or dead pixels is 'waived' (loosely ''s). Usually the manual, or the store, or company has a policy stating how many pixels is acceptable and what threshold they have for returns.
On many screens it is common for a pixel to become 'stuck', yet this is often easilly remedied by massaging the stuck pixel until it returns to normal. You generally should not develop stuck pixels as a property of the screen in high quantities unless the screens are very low quality or, more likely the graphics chip is defective. I had a flawless phone, but now I get a red dot that flashes when I'm using camera or video and only those apps. I've gone through the normal 8 solid colors fullscreen to try to see it, but I can't. It's just not there in other apps. Since it wasn't there when I first started using the camera I doubt it's just a pixel that's sticking because the refresh rate and change of colors is too fast for it (this would have happened all along). I think the screens are substandard because people complain about them far more than other TFT products, and I think the graphics chip is junk.
Has anyone noticed if you can actually get to the tft portion of the screen w/o a shield over it (like most laptops). I haven't tried a takeapart, but if I get a stuck pixel that's the first thing I'm doing. Then it's time for percussive maintenance and a return. It's almost time to poll to see how many people have them.
Nokia itself admits that they vend phones which may have up to 3 pixels stuck, so that's their claimed threshold and something they feel might stand up in court. The problem I see is that most companies claim around the same number regardless of the size of the display. Some admittedly go much higher.
Philips has a zero dead pixel tolerance rule (don't know if it's still in effect) for all but up to 4 unlighted pixels.
It seems like it's litigatiion time sooner or later considering how many devices are deployed w/ TFT, but once again, it is a defect due to poor manufacturing and shouldn't be tolerated in anything you buy.

Apparently TMO USA agree's with me too 😊. I called them about the flashing red pixel (answered 'no it's not blurry, no it's not dead, it's actually just the most annoying type of pixel I've seen'😉 and they said, 'Sorry sir, all we can do is send you another phone'. OK, so now I'm on 6600 #4 Number 1 was bad bluetooth, Number 2 bad power manager, Number 3 (current) flashing red pixel from hell in camera, video, and realplayer, I'm crossing my fingers for Number 4 (Who wants to bet I get one of my other phones back?😉. Anyways, I still like the model a lot or I would have asked for something different. This is the first time I'd call a problem reliability (something suddenly appearing or malfunctioning for no reason when I tightly control what I use on my phone, put a screen protector on it, keep it in my pocket w/ nothing else to scratch it, and never drop it). I'd say there's a lot of Defective phones to begin with, but for reliability the pixel thing seems to be it. Once again it's not normal, it's a defect. So...if you have a flashing pixel and t-mobile you can probably get a replacement if you tell them how annoying it is trying to take a picture w/ a pixel flashing red in your face.
My biggest issue is that I don't LIKE getting replacement phones. I hate cutting new screen protectors for my phones, and I really hate having to re-register any IMEI dependent apps (mobipocket, etc). I hope nokia get's better gchips and a much better screen vendor because this last episode was ridiculous (I was happpy 😞 )
