speaker phone on 7610 is great. very loud. mp3 dont play that well but movies work just great .

Yes ~ the sound is very impressive for a Mono device.
But ... if you're buying the 7610 just for the MP3 ... that isn't a great idea. I'd go for the N_Gage, 3300, 6230 or something ...

or better still......get the Siemens SX1 which has all the features.... stereo mp3(with great earphonrs), decent camera, FM Radio 😎

Decent camera?
May have been in the days of the 3650, 7610 pi##es all over the other cams, with the exception of the GX30, but GX30 has no symbian so it's a non starter 😉
SX1 is a good phone don't get me wrong, depends on what you think is more important, Mp3 playback or camera.
I personally find MP3's are fine on the 7610, much better than my 3650.
Also if you encode below 16khz you'll find they sound MUCH louder and with MORE bass.

My encoding details -
Encoding: Constant Bitrate
Bit Rate: 24 Kbps
Channels: Mono
Frequency: 16000 Hz

You're saying I should decrease the frequency? I think I decreased the Bit Rate or the Frequency ... I forgot, and it resulted with a muffled mp3 and the playback was absolutely crap. That's why I'm using the settings above (file size ends up as 700~900kb)
