Now, if you have readM installed the easiest way to make any TEXT you have into ebooks is just gzip it, but you can also download free palm doc makers (aportisdoc/.(doc)) etc all over the place. If you want to replace a title you own you may want to try alt.binaries.e-book.palm or something like that for ease of use. You REALLY want to pay attention to security if you are trying to back up your physical collection like that.

For instance, try a search for project gutenberg. There are even free audiobooks.
I would also recommend you take a look at something like fictionwise.com for purchasing ebooks, as you can get unencrypted multiformat books that you can download in all the formats and use on almost any machine.

Nobody's talking about pirating books here. Thousands of legit e-books at alt.binaries.e-books*... (if you follow your own advise to its logical end you should never access Internet as there is an illegal content somewhere on the Net...)
