Getting a QD, questions...

I will probably get a N-Gage QD soon, but I haven't decided just yet.

Those of you who have both versions: Is QD's screen much brighter than the old N-Gage, can you clearly see the difference?

Which's the highest bitrate the Real One player can support?

And the theme, is there something else than that quite ugly orange one?

I'm not really sure if it's worth a buy, with the PSP and Nintendo DS soon coming up...

i bought a QD about a week ago.

1. The screen seems the same to me, it might be a bit brigher but i havent really had a chance to compaire close up.

2. No idea, dont watch movies on my QD (yet!)

3. The theme is pretty awful, i managed to find a red coloured one on it, its ok i guess after a little wile.

4. the QD is stunning to look at and much more compact, it looks and feels tiny compaired to the original n-gage but in fact its a little bigger then my old P900, i think its the way the buttons are put together (the original one had quite big buttons which were spread out). If your after a phone which you could mess about with on the train/bus/tube then get the N-gage, if you want compact with no side talking then get QD.

Hope that helps!

The screen's brightness might not be really noticeable especially if u're like me and you set the screen brightness to pretty low. But the real difference is in the resolution as in my opinion the QD is noticeably clearer than the N-gage.
The Real One player can support up to 64Kbps if i didn't remember incorrectly, but u probably won't hear the difference on the QD.
Sorry if i sound rude but I personally find it irritating when people compare the PSP or DS VS the N-gage. There really isn't a basis of comparison. the PSP and DS are DEDICATED portable gaming consoles, while the N-gage is a good mix of both, leaning towards gaming (as announced by Nokia), but the fact remains that its a PHONE, so Nokia has to ensure the phone side of it is respectable. PS and DS on the other hand don't have to worry about that. So if u're very worried about playing games, my advice is to stick with ur current phone and go get either the PSP or DS, or if u, like me, want something that can do almost everything in one compact gadget, the N-Gage would be it.

Thanks for the answers. BTW are you sure the bitrate is 64kbps? I had a 3650 before and it could play in 80kbps.

Well, what I meant was that maybe it isn't worth getting an N-Gage, since I'm after gaming in first hand, and when the DS and PSP is on the market Nokia won't last long in the gaming segment. But what still makes me want the device is its combined phone and gaming features which is a great thing...

Well even if it can play at higher bit rates u seriously won't hear the difference on the QD, but it'd definitely make the difference if u're getting the original N-Gage Game Deck. 😃

HellRanger i understand ur worry 😉 And i agree with you wholeheartedly, the N-gage will NOT last long against the DS and the PSP in terms of gaming. So i guess the only thing'd that keep u wanting the N-Gage is of course the combined ability of gaming and calling.
Personally i have more reasons to prefer the N-gage coz I've had bad experiences with Sony, their stuff are good but spoil WAY too quickly for that price, so i'm not really looking forward to the PSP; Nintendo on the other hand often have an extremely small but very good library of games, but somehow Nintendo's not too common here in Singapore, so for me the N-gage's the first choice, especially when the QD's going at such an affordable price. 😊
