Hopefully you folks aren't too sick of us newbies by now...I couldn't really search for the answers to these, since it's more opinion-based than anything else.
The QD comes out here in the states in a little over a month. So far, I'm considering that model over the original, but I want to get a few answers first dealing with the original unit. Please be honest...I appreciate your help, since you guys are the experts. 😃
1.) I've heard the battery life on the original N-Gage is pretty weak. Is this true? I don't want to be recharging the battery every hour or so...
2.) How's the original's screen brightness? The QD's screen amazed me with its clarity and crispness (I played with a demo unit at a local retailer).
3.) As far as field-stripping the unit just to get a game in or out of the unit is concerned...how annoying does it really get?
4.) The "center" button on the d-pad. I've heard that it's rather easy to accidentally trigger it. Is that true? I'd to screw up my gameplay by accidently clicking it when I'd rather be pressing "left" instead.
5.) Last but not least...that damn SIM card. Does the original include one, or some way of playing without it? I just want to play games on the thing...I have no plans to use it as a cellphone, and I refuse to buy cellphone service just to activate the phone. I know the N-Gage won't work without one; I keep hearing about "unlocking," but I have no idea what that is, or how to go about doing it.
Thanks in advance! 😎

Well, it isn't That bad. It's really hard to speak of battery life as it obviously depends on usage. The biggest battery drainers are GPRS surfing, and playing N-Gage specific games. With N-Gage games you are lucky if you get 3-4 hours of continuously gaming. But for other games (Symbian c++, Java, emulators) you get more than twice that. I'm not exactly sure just why the N-Gage games are so hard on the battery. As for radio and MP3 playing I find the battery perfectly adequate, I'd guess 8-10 hours of continuously playing. For your regular phone usage (a few calls, SMS, PIM etc.) the battery should be good for 3-4 days. The N-Gage QD has a higher capacity battery - 1070mAh vs. 850mAh for the original N-Gage.

The screen is great, IMO. It's much more vivid and clear than, say, the Nokia 3650. I even think it looks better than the 3660 which is supposed to be able to display 65K colours. The screen on the QD is supposed to be brighter though, but I haven't tried the QD yet, and I don't see a need for more brightness.

If you are the type that plays many games at the same time, I'd imagine it will be VERY annoying.
4.) The "center" button on the d-pad. I've heard that it's rather easy to accidentally trigger it. Is that true? I'd to screw up my gameplay by accidently clicking it when I'd rather be pressing "left" instead.
I haven't had any problems there, but I've heard some do.

Hmm, well you could always try to get hold of a "dummy" SIM card. You don't actually need any connection to a network just to use the device.
If you plan to use the device just for games, the QD should suit you better than the original.

=yup= rather think to buy second battery for backup!
2.) How's the original's screen brightness? The QD's screen amazed me with its clarity and crispness (I played with a demo unit at a local retailer).
=yup= more brightness than original n-gage. but 4 me i rather like original n-gage brightness.

u can turn ur phone into offline profiles where it will not involve simcard.
Thanks in advance!
