How to play movies on 6600 help!!!

11 replies · 7,056 views · Started 21 June 2004

I've just got a 6600 and am very interested in playing movies on it. Firstly what size card would you suggest would be needed to play the movies (i have 32mb at the moment)

Is there a program which allows you to convert dvd's into the rm format ( i take it thats the format required?

Please help, some general advice needed

Thanks

if you want entire movies then 512 meg card would be minimum id recommend. I have heard rumours of a program that can convert dvd's to be played on 6600 but it was probably just a joke. Just for short movie clips you can fit quite a lot on the 32 meg card, but you probably couldnt go wrong updating to a 256 meg card

Why would you need a 512MB card for a full movie?128MB is more then enough.Search the forums for SmartMovie - xvid, divx player and for .rm you will need helix producer plus.

Thanks,

Just to clarify with either of the above programs would it be possible to convert a standard dvd to either xvid, divx or.rm so that it will play the entire movie on my 6600.

I currently have real one player as my defualt video player on my phone, is this the best option. Sorry to be a pain but I'm a bit new to all this.

When a movie is converted what is the average file size?

No,you need to converot the DVD to AVI first and then use the conversion programs so the video will be playable on your phone.

I preffer SmartMovie.

About 1MB per minute for a good quality movie.

Search the forum, you'll find answers to your questions.

sorry about my stupid suggestion i dont know much about this 😡 :?

I guess if the main use of the mmc is for full movies then 512 would be better because at 1 meg per minute youd be looking at 120 meg for a full 2 hour movie so you could have pretty much nothing else on there

How many movies out there are two hours long?BTW:I said 1MB per minute with good quality. You can reduce the quality and get smaller file sizes.

why don'r u try Multimedia convertor.

It might be good for converting small clips but when it comes to movies SmartMovie is the king of the hill with features like:A/V sync, brightness correction,landscape/portrait fullscreen playback with high framerates and subtitles.

I have downloaded FlaskMPEG to convert .vob files to .avi, which was done succesfully last night (trying last samuri), have also downloaded SmartMovie and have left it converting the .avi. (I think)

A question about SmartMovie, I went to the website and downloaded the xvid codec, now when I came to convert the movie I was given alot of options. I choose the first one of the list (can't remember the name). Which option would give me the highest quality playback but also keeping the file size to a minimum. I have just purchased 256mb MMC for the 6600.

Thanks Ghostdog for all your help. I tried the above but all I've ended up with is 3 hours of a stuck credit from the last samuri!! Could I just confirm the following with you. I have searched the forum for this info but can't find it.

Firstly, to convert a dvd to play on a nokia 6600, the first thing to do is to rip the .vobs of the DVD disk and store them on your HDD.

Once this is done it is necessary to convert the .vob to .avi. Which program is best suited for this? And do you need a specific codec, if so which one?

Once you have converted the .vob to .avi, you then need to open SmartMovie and convert it once again. You say that you use Xvid Encoder, is that at this point and if so where do you get it from, I downloaded the xvid codec from the SmartMovie website and installed but it seemed to install to my phone. In the codec box for SmartMovie I have no option to choose anything like Xvid Encoder.

I know this is alot to ask but this is quite new to me, so any help would be appriciated, even if you could direct me to an idiots guide!!!!!!!!!

Try http://www.divx-digest.com/ and select the one that suits you best.

You should download the modified XviD version from SmartMovies website: http://www.lonelycatgames.com/mobile/smartmovie/codec/codec_xvid_win32.zip
