I've installedall the drivers and software, i plug the phone into the supplied cable. It makes the "bading" sound like windows does. The phone appears in my computer. I've managed to browse the phone ONCE without any problems. but now it just hangs the machine everytime i try and use the software/browse the phone. I've deinstalled / reinstalled. I have the black 7610. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
7610 Data cable and connecting to phone
I have the same experience last week with the old version of PC Suite 6.1. The program seemed to search for my 7610 phone for ages and hanged the machine.
It did not occur all the time, and everytime I did a reboot, the problem seemed to go away.
The problem disappeared completely after I upgraded to PC Suite 6.2 released last week. Find it in the nokia website.
I'm using WinXP SP1 and the Nokia PC Suite 6.2. Everything seems to work fine except the browser. Sometimes it takes 5 mins to just enter the phone's initial directory. Then it hangs there for another long time, when clicking on another folder. Meanwhile, the WHOLE OS is crawling, I click on start, right click on desktop, CTRL ALT DEL, it takes about 5 mins at least to even show the start or enter the task manager.
Anyone else know what is happening? Is it a conflict of some sort, something in the WinXP settings?
Hi!...
I don't know if this things help you because i don't have any of that problems...
(Win XP, PC Suite 6.1/6.2, Belkin USB BT Adapter)
To me everything goes automatic... i mean.. if i enter to windows... first connect
the phone to the cable.. then open PC Suite ... then on phone browser appear the Nokia 7610 directory inmediatly.. with no wait...
If you turn on the BT first then open PC Suite without cable pluged, so i wait a few second and then appear the Nokia 7610 directory.. now by BT... but if you turn off the BT and you plug the cable, even closing the PC suite and running again.. the connection by cable don't work anymore... so..
My recommendation are:
- Always plug in the cable to the phone and PC before to open PC Suite
- If you was connected by BT .. then close everything and make a LOG OFF on Windows... (restart it's not needed) then enter again plug in the cable and run PC suite..
- Remember to Turn OFF the BT on the phone before to make the Cable connection
Well..
Hope this thing help..

Can you be more specific as to how it went away? Update any drivers, do anything special to your phone or computer??
When I get home I will try to try it again without BT turned on, and the procedure you guys recommend above. Yes, my mmc is named already too. hmm..
Thanks for the tips, I hope they work.. cuz I really wanna download the pics off the phone into my computer :frown:
...just the same problem on WinXP SP1 with Nokia 6230 phone over the IR link. Everything seems to work fine except browser both on 5.8 and 6.2 versions. Starting the browser eats up all the resources on my 3.06GHz laptop, even not allowing to switch tasks, or open up a task manager.
Another crappy thing from Nokia - none of the versions supporting 6230 phone understands .ncc backup files written by their older soft for my previous 7110 phone, thus I have to copy-paste my entire phone book (236 positions) row by row, number by number 😞 . Sad, the shame for them.
I have a black 7610 Asia-Pacific version and it has the same problem. The trick is to connect first the phone to the usb cable before starting up the pc. I hope the version 6.2 of pc suite is with fewer glitches than the one I have and might download it to compare. 😊
