6600 One week on

7 replies · 1,908 views · Started 24 June 2004

I've owned my 6600 for a week now. Can't say I'm impressed with it.
Incoming calls don't show caller name, just number (name is in address book)
Regular 'not enough memory' errors for sim updates
Phone turns itself off, and when turning back on, error messages 'App closed main' and 'App closed mce'
iSync (Apple Mac) regulary needs phone to power-cycled to work.

Waiting on Orange tech support to call......

Sounds like you need a re-flash on the unit. Take your unit to a CNSP (club nokia service point) and show them the faults.

Check the above link to find you nearest CNSP.

The latest Orange firmware is 3.49.2. To find out what you are running type *#0000# into the idle screen.

In the Orange s/w had a few bugs in it anyhow!

The phone was went by Orange, and has Orange logo on it.

Its not the 6600 thats at fault.

Its all that Orange crap, type "Orange" and "Problem" in the search here and see how much you get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Incoming calls don't show caller name, just number (name is in address book)"

Resolution - Make sure you don't have the numbers stored twice. Have them
stored on the phone OR the sim card, and store all your numbers
in international format (eg. 0797 is +44797, press the * key twice
to get the + sign). If this doesn't resolve then you need a Sim update

"Regular 'not enough memory' errors for sim updates"

Resolution - The Orange sim updates comes through in 4 or 5 text messages so
make sure you have 5 spaces at least free. Preferably delete all
messages from the inbox, outbox, sent items and drafts folder
to make sure the full update is received then delete the sim update
and turn the phone off, remove the battery and sim card for approx.
10 seconds and turn it all back on.

"Phone turns itself off, and when turning back on, error messages 'App closed main' and 'App closed mce'"

Resolution - Do you have to turn the phone back on manually? If so you should
look into getting it replaced, however if it resets itself this isn't seen
as service affecting, it's put in place to stop the phone locking up so
a network or manufacturer may not offer a replacement. As for the
error messages, don't worry about them, nearly everyone get's some
and they don't effect the usage of the phone at all.

I have the same phone version also from orange no probs so far although ive unlocked mine to o2 dont know if that would make a difference
