Epoc 6.1 & Firmware Question

6 replies · 3,050 views · Started 24 November 2001

Hi - can anyone tell me whether the new operating system 6.1, 6.2, etc will more than likely
- speed up synchronisation
- make applications run alittle faster
- offer bluetooth, etc

I don't really know much about this OS and hope that the 9210 can be upgraded with software, etc....like the Palm when you get a new operating system upgrade.

You wont get the new OS on the 9210 (probably). You get firmware updates that fix most of your problems. Though some are hardware (speed of syncing dependent on serial connection).

Tks for your reply...I am looking at buying one next week and want to be sure that I am buying something that has lots of problems, etc.....

What are your thoughts...

Would you buy one again if you had your time again or wait for something else, etc...

Hi Turok,

For what it's worth, given the choice, I would buy the 9210 again. There is always something better coming out, but I haven't come across anything that is likely to come out in say the next 6 months that would tempt me. The one thing I am looking forward to is of course the next communicator !

I have had a number of PDAs in the past including an IPaq. For ME, the Nokia is the best choice of all the offerings. Only limitation at present is available software, but that is improving all the time.

Let us hope Bluetooth syn. will be available in Symbian 6.1.

This is just a hope. There is no comment from Nokia. Just a rumors...

Yes.. All PDA OSs can be upgraded. Nowadays PamOS 4.1 is on the way. Compaq is offering PPP2002 upgrade for their iPAQ 34xx. If 9210 is non-upgardable
It will be the first PDA in this category!

Not quite correct, the HandSpring Visor's (which uses the Palm OS) is not upgradeable, it was made that way to be cheaper to produce... As to the details of the Nokia, I'm not sure, certainly the firmware can be upgraded.

Tks - I have also had recent exposure to Palms and Ipaq....and have turned -full circle now wondering if the Nokia 9210 is the next best thing....

Sounds like most people who own one grow to love them and the problems are reduncing with each firmware upgrade (or so one would hope!).
