Has anyone played Ashen yet?

The game looks pretty cool to me, and I generally don't like FPS titles. I haven't seen any real reviews for it yet, either.

This had to be translated it's not perfect english but it is readable, i would recomend this game to anybody even if they do not like FPS.

Is afraid you! The time of waiting is past, but the sleepless and albtraumumwanderten nights will only now begin! Because Nokia releases the potential hit candidate, the horror Shooter Ashen on the public! Since the announcement and the presentation of the first pictorial material the play has for large excitement provided, but can it the Hype become fair? When we were allowed to allude the alpha version Ashen to the CeBIT 2004 the first time, the euphoria was large. Liquid animations about those John Romero to only dream knows. A dark, musical atmosphere, which freeze together with very realistic sound effects the blood in the veins read. Now the sales version is in the Finnish play terminal and we can finally report, which potential really is into Ashen! If one begins the play, then one becomes in the main menue only once with a large variety of options ueberschuettet. Nearly everything is as desired adjustable whether language, sound, brightness, contrast and above all control. Here one along-thought and for the higher-contrast screen of the QD took precautions. Also the n-Gage arena functions can be used here. These are however limited on the entry in the world-wide good list. From the functions we start now finally a new play. If the suitable degree of difficulty was selected, tragic history is told around filter current city and under-painted with fixed images. The edited version of the Story is that the sister of our hero (with name Vanessa) opened a gate together with a scientist colleague into another dimension. But something ran inclined and it control lost - and the strange world named Maqabir merges now slowly with the unsrigen. Dangerous and dark natures, which inhabit this strange world, kidnapped Vanessa. You (an ex soldier named Jakob Ward) are the single fighter on your excursion between insanity and horror, in order to save your sister and the world. Lovecraft meets John Sinclair already in the first level is characterised Ashen as very dark and tendencyful play. Only armed with a pistol one is in a kind Kellergewoelbe, which lets the graphic abilities of the horror Shooters suspect at the beginning. Highly detailed environments, light and shade effects and tidy textures shift one when first alluding and owing to the liquid course of motion in being astonished. Also the sound effects, whether it is now when firing the weapon or when reloading, can convince and carry by the high quality for good total tendency. Krallt you your n-Gage, waits, until it is outside beautifully dark and dark, dimmt the lighting, headphone purely and it the suitable atmosphere for Ashen produced. If now the next opponent emerges abruptly, should watch out you not to shoot before shock beside it because that could mean fast your death sentence. Thus you fight to you by the 8 large worlds, which are divided into several sections. One stores always after such a section. One Quick save function does not give it unfortunately. The further you advance in the play, your weapon-technology equipment becomes the better. Altogether 9 different opinion amplifiers are available. So e.g. a Alienwaffe, double pistols, rocket launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle etc.. Whereby potential snipers come less in the play at your expense, the rifle with the telescope failed unfortunately somewhat. The AI of the opponents is quite acceptable: They pursue you by the level, creep sometimes unnoticed on (which provides for or other shock effect) and do not only represent in hordes/hurdles an acceptable threat. In the later process of the play the optically good level Design does not diminish. Only?Raetsel?, if one liked to call it in such a way, leave something to be desired. A few switch here, a few detours there. Although there are interaction possibilities, the play process remains quite linear in the rough one and whole one. Also the?innovative? Spirit view eyeglasses, are not as spectacular in the final result, as first accepted and/or announced. In the reason it more than one indulgence equipment is to be used, in dark areas provides it for better safe conditions. Large?Geheimnisse? one cannot discover however thereby. Now and then an invisible opponent settle or in a certain level mission articles find is that highest ones of the feelings. Here more potentials in it would have quite been, which lowers unfortunately also the replay barness of the play. More Secrets would be desirable. Altogether however Ashen obtain a very good play feeling, which for the Handheld sector in things Ego Shooter is unique. A little clouds the short spieldauer, because an experienced player can obtain quite fast large successes. But who would like to master the hard mode, a hard nut must crack. In addition there is then the world rank list - and there professionals play also!

Control: Full control is the slogan, because the controlling of the play is freely selectable and adjustable depending upon liking optimally. As you arrange now your key allocation, is left to everyone. The character actually steers itself very liquid and coordinates by the level, both on the classical n-Gage and on the QD. With sprags as do not talk Faction absolutely comparably!

Diagram: Here the first Screenshots had already provided for bright enthusiasm. And which the developers from the house torus on the n-Gage gezaubert, is so far unique in the Handheld sector. (nearly) a perfectly liquid 3D engine, which can thoroughly convince. Whether there is now the light effects in the level or when firing a weapon, a?Geistersichtbrille?, for visual alternation provides - all that can positively affect the overall view. To Slowdowns it comes isolated and also then only if one gathers a heap of ammunition, large Polygonmodelle like the cathedral regarded or a horde/hurdle opposite monster stands. Unfortunate it is that there are only so few opponent models (less than 10). The weapons are somewhat verpixelt, can convince and place by their sayful animation phases however again no annoyance there, how it seemed on some Screenshots.

Sound: The compositions of Ashen are just as unique for a play from the Handheld range as the diagram engine. Orchestrale of sounds, which let the Midi Gepiepse of other portable consoles forget to ensure for the fact that the atmosphere remains exciting stehts. Some pieces, how on the roof of the cathedral, run in the n-PAGE-editorship in the meantime up and down! The knackigen sound effects with the extremely ingenious "I let my cartridges on the soil fall that it convince scheppert" effect only in such a way, even if the shots sound often quite similar.

Feature: N-Gage typically was not saved also with Ashen in things features. Language selection and several memory conditions belong already to the standard of the Finnish Doenertiers. Beyond that the outstanding Zocker can register itself into the n-Gage arena good list.

Multiplayer: Whereupon we waited! Liquid and exciting Bluetooth Multiplayer duels. Talks if Faktion packs away or better still, it sells again, because Ashen is also here far superior. There are unfortunately only 4 different Multiplayerlevel and only few adjustable play modes, yet we have here a clear play passport guarantor. Here it means: The battle may begin! Snatches you your n-Gage, meet you with your friends and the otherwise boring Sunday afternoon is saved. With our test it seemed to us however in such a way, as if the host of the play had some advantages in things speed opposite the joined players - the pleasure ruckelte with the participating player now and then nevertheless noticeably.

Result: Which shows torus Games here with Ashen, it did not give in the Handheld sector so far. I maintained from me, a Ego Shooter Muffel to have been, but Ashen convinced me of the fact that is very probably possible to create also on portable level a play with successful atmosphere and high play barness. Over smaller lack (spieldauer and small replay barness) one can see easily away, because this Game has craze potential. Watched out, Ashen should not be missing to Shooter fans and act ion friends in your n-Gage collection! Kevin Jensen for n-Page.de thank you at Nokia for the friendly supply of the test samples

Troy, if you've "lifted" this review from somewhere, please provide a link back to the source. If it's your work, then let me know!

The graphics are awesome, the music is chilling, controls are good, and it's actually scary at points. Gamespot.com, Wgamer.com, Gamepro.com, and N-Gagefrance.com have reviews. Other websites do as well.

All About Symbian / N-Gage is waiting to recieve an offical review copy from Nokia - when we do, we'll have our nicely unbiased and not influenced by the advertisers in any way review as well 😉

I found it boring and not much better than Doom or Red Faction.
But that's just my opinion, (and it's certainly not my final) after I get bored with the Sims I'll try it some more. But the multiplayer does look like it could be good fun.

I'm still trying to get Nokia to send us review copies of games, too (I write for 411Games). I need to amp up the pressure on those folks... 😉
