what softwares(not from nokia) do guys have in ur n-gage.. or would like to have
most useful softwares for n-gage
I love this Symbian PuTTy, helps alot when I want to manage my *nix server, Opera is nice too but it eats ALOT of my b/w. 😊
I have FExplorer, that's a must for every symbian phone in my opinion. I also have Rally Pro Championship and UltraMP3. Thinking of adding PicoDrive to that collection as well 😊
which is better?
SeleQ or Fexplorer?

Could you please let me know whether the mp3 playback quality using UltraMP3 is as good if not better than the preinstalled mp3 player (only if you are using an original n-gage). What doesn't the DEMO version on the http://www.lonelycatgames.com/ website include that the full version does?

The original player can play 44Khz,Stereo.UltraMP3 can only play 16Khz,Mono.
That would sound chit. Whats the difference between the demo and the full version though?
I use the following software on my QD:
Oggplay (for playing .ogg files, like MP3s but smaller)
Switcher (for killing off misbehaving apps, and things like that)
FExplorer (file browser, VERY useful and good and also free)
putty (ssh client, if you don't know what that is, you don't need it)
GoBoy (gameboy emulator)
pExtender (have 6 colour palettes instead of three)
ReadM (eBook reader and MP3 player)
picoDrive (Sega Genesis emulator, alpha but free and being continually improved)
MP3 playback quality:
I used ReadM for my MP3 test (I believe ReadM is free software). The file I played back was a 192 kbps stereo MP3 converted from a 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo WAV. It's getting converted to mono on the fly, but other than the pathetic bass response of the included N-Gage QD headset, I was actually quite impressed with the quality. Sitting and listening to the original (or even the 192 kbps MP3) with my studio headphones is admittedly a superior audio experience, but the QD did quite well here.
If I wanted amazing MP3 playback, I would get an iPod or something. But for me, having MP3 playback (or Ogg, for that matter) on my phone is a bonus to an already cool device. It games, it plays music, it's an IP communications device, and also a phone. Perhaps I should go and build an adapter so I can hook up my studio headphones and do a true comparison. But until then, I'm quite pleased with the audio capabilities of this unit.
APPS:
-------
FExplorer, GoBoy, but nothing else. I had MiniGPS, but it was pretty weird :? .
JAVA GAMES:
----------------
Prince of Persia, Rayman3, Spider-Man, Splinter Cell, Stalk'N'Shoot.
I would like to have GPS program, so I could know better where I am going :P
Wirelessly posted (Nokia N-Gage: NokiaN-Gage/1.0 (4.03) SymbianOS/6.1 Series60/0.9 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)
EmailViewer (http://www.reqwireless.com, http://www.reqwireless.com/wap), for sending and receiving E-Mail from msn Hotmail and POP3 accounts; Torch, freeware that turns the whole screen white so it can be used as a flashlight; pExtender (sometimes called "Palette Extender"😉, freeware that increases the number of available color schemes on Series 60 phones (up to 6 on the original N-Gage); SystemTools (http://www.psiloc.com, http://wap.psiloc.com), offers a variety functions, including the ability to assign any graphic as an operator logo; AppMan (http://www.symbianware.com), a task manager that, among other things, can add ANY application to the "Favourites" pin-board appliction; ZipMan (http://www.wildpalm.co.uk, http://www.wildpalm.net/wap), allows compressed files to be opened on Series 60 phones; FSCaller (sometimes called "Full-Screen Caller," http://www.symbianware.com), displays full-screen photos when your contacts call you; JJLKeyLock (http://www.iki.fi/jari.laaksonen, also available from the "Freeware" section of All About N-Gage), freeware that can lock your phone's keypad after a user-determined period of time; HandySafe (http://www.epocware.com), allows you to store confidential data securely on your phone in an "e-wallet."
Ive got the N-Gage with a 512 MB. Here is a list of the software on my phone.
Apps:
FExplorer (http://www.gosymbian.com)
Without doubt the best application for a Symbain 60 phone. This file manager can do everything you want + a lot more. I especially use it to keep the backlight lit and to see the exact amount of power left on the battery.
SmartMovie (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/mobile/smartmovie/smartmovie.html)
I think it's best media player. It supports XviD/DivX - thereby allowing full-lenght movies to have very little file sizes. It also supports flipping the screen horizontaly to get at bigger full-size picture.
TheftAlert (http://www.microteq.net/)
This is an excelent app. Since I've use a lot of money on my N-Gage this is a must for me. If your phone gets stolen or lost it will lock the phone, display a message on the display with your name and address, emitting a high pitch tone and keep you informed if the SIM-card is changed, thereby allowing you to track down the thief.
Opera (http://www.opera.com/products/smartphone/products/s60/)
An very good browser. Supports "shrinking" a web-site to fit the small display.
HeadLine (http://wildpalm.co.uk/HeadLine.html)
A RSS-reader for Symbian 60 phones. It works exceptionally well. You can browse the news, and if you want a to see the full article it works together with your browser (like Opera) and thereby showing you the full article.
CtrlFreak Pro (http://mtvoid.com/)
Control WinAmp via Bluetooth. This program is 10 times better than Bemused. It keeps the playlist on the phone and has the same good search funtionality as the original WinAmp on the PC.
PC-Remote (http://bladers-world.com/hosted/bladersoftware/?site=pcremote)
Control DVD, TV, Media Player and the mouse and keyboard on your computer via Bluetooth.
TomTom CityMaps (http://www.tomtom.com/products/products.php?ID=232&Language=1)
This is the ONLY real option when you want to avoid getting lost on your vacation. It has highly detailed maps of all major cities in Europe and many other big cities around the world.
Java:
Party Drinking Games (http://my-symbian.com/7650/applications/applications.php?fldAuto=760&faq=2)
Just a fun little game for everyone that likes beers 😃
HotViewer (http://www.reqwireless.com/hotviewer.html)
A great tool for checking your Hotmail-account. It's fast, reliable and it works! The only disadvantage is that it can't attach files to messages.
StopWatch (http://www.jacado.com)
The simplest stop watch ever.
Worms (http://www.thqwireless.com/minisite.asp?ProdID=103)
BOOM! 😃
Games:
Cobra Attack (http://www.nmprod.com/Contents/Products/CobraAttack/cobraattack_info.htm)
The first and only 3D helicopter game for N-Gage. It so cool! Try it out.
RallyProChampionship (http://www.mophun.com/main_games.php?mode=previewgame&game_id=2000012)
A GREAT 3D racing game. I've played about a million hours by now 😉 The best thing about it is the "reality-feeling". The steering is way better than in Sega Rally Championship, and the speed feels realistic. So when you drive at 180/h it feels like your going 180/h.
LemonadeTycoon (http://www.jamdat.com/JamdatWeb/Catalog/US/en/game/mobile/ProductDetailOverviewView/product-249)
If you liked the other Tycoon games, then try this one out. I love it.
Prince of Persia - Sands of Time (http://www.gameloft.com/en/product_page.php?game=626)
The game is okay, but there are only 8 levels...
DopeWars (http://www.palmanac.co.uk/Dopewars_7650.html)
In 30 days you have to make as much money as you can being a drug dealer.
PicoDrive (http://www.picodrive.tk/)
Cool Sega Genesis/Sega MegaDrive emu.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/tony_hawk.htm)
THE BEST N-GAGE GAME! I love this game. Great graphics, nice steering and one of the games that have really been able to benefit from the vertical screen.
Ashen (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/ashen.htm)
Sega Rally Championship (http://www.n-gage.com/R1/en/games/games_segarally.html)
FIFA 2004 (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/fifa_soccer_2004.htm)
MotoGP (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/moto_gp.htm)
Tomb Raider (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/tomb_raider.htm)
Red Faction (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/red_faction.htm)
The Sims Bustin Out (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/sims.htm)
SonicN (http://www.n-gage.com/en-R1/games/gamedata/sonicn.htm)
By the way, I did the rear-talkin-mod (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/23885/) and it works like a charm. I can recommend it to anyone tired of side-talkin. Just do it with the Torx6 as described in the thread, then you won't be in danger of ruining your phone. 😉
Wirelessly posted (Nokia N-Gage: NokiaN-Gage/1.0 (4.03) SymbianOS/6.1 Series60/0.9 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)
Game MMCs: SonicN, The Sims: Bustin' Out, Tomb Raider and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I'd write what Java games I have, but the list would be too big- I have over 100!
Apps I use daily:
Active Desk
Active Mail
Agile Messenger
Opera
FExplorer
PicoDrive
sProfiles
Mobipocket Reader
Torch
Games:
Ashen - The Best game for N-Gage
All those great Sega Megadrive games with PicoDrive.
I download java-games to use on my Siemens SX1, but how do I install and make it work?
-thanks for good answers
You have to transfer them to your phone via bluetooth, then install with 'Apps'.
Is tomtom city maps different to tomtom mobile? Is it true tomtom mobile will not work with the n-gage?
