I'm having trouble getting past the 2nd "Checking the installation of Sony Ericsson Update Service" that appears during the update service after the Terms & Conditions page. The page address is http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/P900/stepStart.jsp?Recovery=false&Action=None so I guess it's trying to start it but it can't? I have Windows 2000, tried it on a real PC as well as in Virtual PC running Win 2000 on a Mac. Internet Security settings set to low. What am I doing wrong?
Update Service: can't get past "checking" screen
I opened the Java Console and found this. If that is an error down there, any idea how to solve it? By the way, because I don't have the PC Suite CD I only installed it from the web. Would that make a difference?

I updated JRE to 1.4.2 (latest) and now console seems to show its fine (no errors like previous post) but still it doesn't go past the "checking" screen.

I must be doing something wrong because I've tried it on 3 different PCs and this is always the case. I'll try to get the PC Suite CD from my friend and see if this has to do anything with it. In the meantime, HELP IS APPRECIATED. Thanks.
I've got the same issue. I even followed the advice on another forum, upgraded to Sun JRE 1.4.2 and used another browser (Mozilla) to try to solve the problem, all to no avail.
Any more ideas??
I am using WinXP SP1, all Windows Update patches applied, latest version of PC Suite on four different PCs, all showing the same behaviour. My phone is CDA 162003/5 and is an unlocked (from the factory) P900...
Surely this is a problem SonyEricsson know about? It seems fairly common...
I managed to get it to work on XP and 2000 now using advice here:

Try using Opera (with Java), that's what I tried and it finally worked!
