I have been trying to convert my avi and mpeg video files to 3gp for my phone, using Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0 (NMC), but with no success.
It always encounters an error when it reaches the "Preprocessing Audio" stage and terminates the program.
I run XP Home SP1 and installed is the JRE 1.3.1_09, cos' i read another older thread stating that one needs a java runtime for NMC to work.

Now, i have had only one success lately, that came out with good video but no sound when played on the phone (Nokia 6230). I thought maybe its because a higher audio bitrate WB-AMR 23.05kbps, but played perfectly with sound on the computer. So i tried standard AMR 12.2, but i encountered my original problem of the program stopping.

My settings are the default except for:-
Video: sub-QCIF (128X96)
and on that one occasion, Audio: WB-AMR 23.05kbps

I have almost all the audio codecs for the different avi formats and mpegs, so there shouldnt be a problem of non-support.

So please help......i have a 512mb MMC waiting for some cool vids.

p.s...yes, i do know that this is a series 40 phone in a series 60 forum, but i figure its the same program used for the symbian phones and its not neccesarily a handset specific problem since it happens on the computer. Tha said, feel free to move it to the appropriate forum if needed.

You don't need the jre but that shouldn't hinder your ability to convert video files anyway, and we can ignore the fact that your phone is series 40 for the time being because the problem is occurring at your computer. I just encoded a file with there settings: video-Qcif 176x144, 15fps, intra period at 15 sec, 64 kbps, audio-amr at 12.2 kbps. I then changed the video settings to sub-Qcif 128x96, leaving everything unchanged, and got a good file. If it doesn't work with there settings for you I suggest you reinstall the application.

Guess what-somehow you have inflicted your problem onto my computer! Ha ha! It only happens with vob files for me though (avis are fine). I read somewhere that an error occurs if the start time is 0 (on an official readme but I can't find it now) so I've changed it to 3 and am in the (long) process of converting the file. Will let you know how I get on.

Tried it, didnt work!! I dont know what could be wrong. Ive tried turning off some of the non-essential background processes in the ccomputer, but still no joy.

If only nokia actually rplied to questions.......very very deplorable customer service.
