I saw on Gamestop that the QD will come with a $100 mail-in rebate, so the total price is $100 including one game (Tony Hawk). This is much closer to the price of the GBA, and probably something people will mind less paying, especially since they're getting both a decent gaming machine and an advanced phone in the bargain.
QD price - now we're talking

Check the fine print. That $100 rebate only applies if you get a 1- or 2-year cellular service plan. I saw the same poster at my local Gamestop...but read the whole thing, and in tiny letters on the bottom was the dealbreaker. :frown:

I don't see where it says that.
Just picked up a QD yesterday at my local carrier, Fido. Their website listed $150 CAD (with a 2-year contract, $200 month-to-month, or $250 without a new activation), but when I went into the store it was only $100! (that's about $75 USD). That included the phone, charger, dual mono headset, and the Tony Hawk game. Not a bad deal, I must say.
Ran out, spent my savings on a 64MB MMC and a card reader for my computer, and now I'm playing with picoDrive and OggPlay. Hooray! 😊
yeah I saw the whole *Activation required thing going on. I guess The Gamestop finally realized the commi$$ion potential in selling a game deck that can tie someone to a 12 or 24 month contract. And the QD being a data-centric device the commissions are especially nice with the sale of data services, ringtones, and picture messaging.

Wait, you found it that cheap WITHOUT a service contract?! Jeez, that rocks. Doubt we'll get a deal like that here in the US, though. 😞

GameStop employees don't get commission. They're just regular hourly average joes; I've got a bunch of friends who work at my local one.

Just to clarify, the $250 CAD (as listed) was for the QD package, without a new activation with the carrier. $200 CAD list was for the package with a month-to-month activation, and $150 was for a 2-year contract. Then they knocked the $150 down to $100, and the $200 down to $175. I'm not sure if the $250 still stands or not.
