Introduction
The Ogg Vorbis Controller is a plugin for Symbian's Multimedia Framework that allows that decoding and playing back of Ogg Vorbis compressed audio files. It allows any application which uses the multimedia framework to play back these files. It has been tested on a Nokia 6600, but should work on any device that uses version 2.0 (or higher) of the Series 60 platform. It also works on the Series 60 v 2.0 emulator. It has been developed on version 7.0s of Symbian OS, and should work on any later release.
It was written as an example of how to write an MMF controller plugin implementing a non-trivial codec. It uses the Tremor Ogg Vorbis integer decoding library produced by the Xiph.Org Foundation.
Installing the plugin
A SIS file is provided here for ease of installation. This has been tested on a Nokia 6600, and contains a small modification which allows Ogg Vorbis files to be recognized by the existing recorder application on the phone, as well as the ring tone picker. This allows you to use Ogg Vorbis files as ringtones on a Nokia 6600.

Yes! mp3 quality (& reduced size) ringtones for your 6600! I'm sure everyone by now has heard about dBpowerAMP. All you gotta do is launch the conversion application, find your mp3 and then convert using the Ogg Vorbis codec which comes with the dBpowerAMP. And when the conversion is done, your mp3 file will have a .ogg extension.
Download and install the above file to your 6600'c C drive. After that is done, then simply BT or IR the .ogg file that you have to your phone and by default, the Recorder will now be able to play the file. You can then ofcourse select this file as your ringtone in the Profiles area.
Found a little bug, well not really a bug but if you have FSCaller running, if you have selected the .ogg file to be your ringtone, the first 3 seconds or so as the FSCaller loads the caller image (assigned or not), the sound will be distorted & 'broken' but would sound better after that. Oh and also, the article said that
It has been developed on version 7.0s of Symbian OS, and should work on any later release.
but I'm sad to say that you guys on the new firmware wont be able to get this to work. So you people on old firmware are lucky! Anyways, do have a go and tell us if you encounter the 'bugs' I meantioned above.
Good Luck! 😎
