just vibrate on receiving SMS?

is it possible?
I found a ringtone must be set for the phone to vibrate when it receives an SMS .. But configured this way, it rings too! not just vibrate..

How can I configure it not for ringing when receiving SMS but just vibrating??

A workaround would be to create a ringtone with silence and use it.. sounds awful..

You answered your own question, I do it. Works perfectly

I did the same thing with my 6600, this is the only way to do it

I do believe that the new firmware (4.'sumthin'😉 solves that issue; of course it introduces a bunch of new ones, but you can't have everything.. O_o

I tried to put a beep.. but the volume for SMS ringtone seems to be always the same even when I lower it...

When I posted the first message in this thread I'd already done the "workaround" ..

- Recorded a silent wave with CoolEdit with 5secs..
- Encoded it do a file .AMR using Nokia Multimedia Converter..
- Used it on the phone as "message alert tone"..

One thing I figured out is that, for SMS, phone will vibrate as long as the "message alert tone" is playing.. So, if you select a whole song, it will vibrates(and rings too) for 3-5 minutes..

Besides, in my old 3320 (not a Symbian phone), it vibrates accordingly the tone that was selected before I changed to Silent .. It was funny because I was able to set my phone to vibrate twice, pause, twice for SMS and 3times,pause,3times,pause(keep ringing..)... for calls..

never thought of using the phones own recording software? ..just a thought..

if the encoder uses a variable bitrate and you have a complete silent wave made by cool edit, it will result in less bits pro produce this "silence"... if you record from the phone you'll have little noise, but you'll have them! and will encode them...

anyway.. my explanation is useless because n6600 does not decode variable bitrate, right?
