Hi, I have a 6 in 1 card reader and I copy a program (.sis file) to the mmc card (the one that comes with the phone) and when I insert the card into the phone and open it, I can't find the copied file on the phone. I copy it in \system\install\. Another problem is when I copy the file into any other directory (\nokia\others\ for example) and open the phone and then again close it and read the card from the card reader, the file is deleted. What causes this?
I can't see the .sis file on the phone
You need to send the file to the phone via infrared, BT or email so that it appears in your inbox, and then install from there. Or use PC Suite and find it on the PC and install it using that software.
The install directory on the phone is where the sis script goes once the application has been installed so that the software knows what files are where and how to uninstall if needed.
so I can never install a software using card reader, is this true?
Yes you can, but it depends... E.g., on the N-Gage the "Manager" app can see .sis files in the MMC root and install them. On others you may have to first get, e.g., FExplorer installed (http://www.gosymbian.com/) and then use FExeplorer to launch the installation by opening the .sis or .jar file.
