reminder, but for when?! :(

18 replies · 2,834 views · Started 09 July 2004

what the f*ck is going on?!

when an alarm occurs for a calendar event, it tells me the current date/time and not the

date/time of the event.

what the use is that?!!! 😞 😞

i've never seen another organiser that does that, it cant be right surely!?

flashed it to the latest firmware from SE but still duff.

tried the same thing on a T610, and appears to work ok there, so isnt a SE oddity.

help! 😞

no reply from SE yet. i really hope they dont just say speak to your network provider!> that wont make me very happy!! 😡

anyone had the same problem on non orange 900s?

😊 SE says this is a bug! and that it is fixed on

This is corrected in MR3 software version. MR3 software consists of the following component versions:

Phone: R3C006
Bluetooth: R5D
Organizer (PDA): R4A06
CDA: R4A04

anyone got this version? i only flashed mine about a week ago

My fimware is a few steps ahead of the one indicated. Do you have a branded phone? If your phone was not bought SIM Free then you will, in all likelyhood, not have the latest firmware, just the last one your provider has approved.

It's the organiser version that matters. I believe the latest is R5B02.

thanks Bassey:

yeah, im on orange uk. im sure the verison the SE site said i could have on orange was actually older than the one ive got at the mo?!

have you noticed that the problem with the reminder date/time has been fixed on your version?

ta

I must admit, I never noticed the problem in the first place!

However, upon testing it now, it does seem to still work as you originally describe. So it doesn't look as if it has been fixed at all.

called the service number on the mail from SE and spoke to Hayes. they werent very helpful. just said chuck the 900 in a jiffy bag and post it to them! 😮

they said that the firmware couldnt be done over the net?!

think a letter to SE is called for to sort this 🙄

phone SE support and they reckon that R4A06 should sort this problem, which is a bit odd cause i have R4B03 and someone else has a R5, and it is still wrong on those?!

well, i sent a couple of letters to SE (and orange) and no response yet. that was a bout 10 days or so ago. that aint good! Siemens would have replied to me by now. come on SE 😞

someone on the my-symbian forum says it is a known bug on the 800 and 900. SE have admitted it and that it isnt fixed yet!?! 😞

But remember, the calendar program is UIQ\Symbian's. In order to get this fixed, SE would need the co-operation of symbian\UIQ who are currently working on the next releases of the OS and Shell.

Company's aren't likely to fix minor bugs at a cost to themselves when they are working on updates that will make them more money. And it must be a minor bug when it's taken ten months or so for anyone to notice it!

thanks Bassey:

you are probably right. 😞 i noticed it within 2 days of getting the phone. im a bit hacked off cause i got the 900 specifically for the organiser, and it is a bit poor if it cant tell me the correct date/time of a coming event.

its a pitty that third party s/w cant change the way the reminders work, but i suppose they would still be sent the wrong info by UIQ?

may be an upgrade to the new UIQ version? 😉

bummer! Symbian say it is a bug with UIQ. they might fix it in later versions of the os 😞

thats not very good customer support is it! and, didnt they test that bit of the organiser before releasing it? 😮

update from UIQ.COM

I'm afraid the short answer is that the solution isn't likely to be available as an update to your existing UIQ 2.1-based phone.

The reason I am fairly sure of this is that it would require changes to both the alarm server which is part of Symbian OS, to the information dialog which is part of UIQ, and then this would have to be baked into an upgrade for a phone. Hence, a fairly substantial amount of work to fix something which you are the first person to report as a problem. So although I fully understand that it might be frustrating, I have to admit it may not reach the top of the priority list.
