7610 PC Suite Problem?

20 replies · 12,511 views · Started 12 July 2004

Hi,
I just got my 7610 about a week ago and I'm having problems connecting it to my PC.
I've got the DKU-2 USB cable and PC Suite 6.2 (both the latest versions off the net).

  • I installed the Cable Drivers first (as it says to do).

  • I then plug in my phone - Windows XP recognises it and installs the various drivers.

  • I then install PC Suite 6.2 and reboot.

However, when I go to the Conection Manager it says...

Connection to Nokia PC Suite failed. Please reinstall Nokia PC Suite. (Code: Init IMediaControl2)

I've tried the Technical Support line and they told me to disconnect my internet, uninstall, use the Registry CleanUp, and then reinstall... But it still won't work.

I've heard rumors that this has something to do with some coding software I have already on my PC??

Please help?

Have you had older versions of PC Suite installed on the same PC?

If so, then with the Windows registry editor (regedt32 or regedit) go to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

When there, remove the entry named "ServiceLayer" and reboot. It is a leftover from a previous installation and causes this error because it conflicts somehow with the new PC Suite.

Hi. I did have the version that came with the phone installed i.e. 6.1 but it came up with the same error.

So I uninstalled that and got 6.2 off the website.

I followed your instructions but when I got to the 'Run' folder there was no "ServiceLayer" entry.

The only "Nokia" entries are "DataLayer" and "PCSuiteTrayApplication"?

well i also hav probs with the pc suite , more precise with the phone editor .. it says that my handy ( 7610 ) is not supported ... do you have the same prob ?
or what should i do to solve it ?

Sorry, I can't help you out on that one because I can't even get my phone to show up in the Connection Manager in the Control Panel...

Does anybody else have any info on how to fix this because not even Nokia themselves do?

You can't do anything about it. Starting from Nokia PC Suite 6.1 (latest now 6.2) Nokia is using a single PC Suite for all new phones (instead of different versions for each phone as previously). Not all phones support all the features in the new PC Suite. See the compatibility table here: http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,,54698,00.html

I only have a mere 6.2 ...

Yeah, same! Even the nokia site only offers v6.1

I found it. PC Suite 6.2 can be downloaded off Nokia.com (International Site, go to Product Support, Nokia 7610)

Nokia.com.au only had PC SUite 6.1 ... :S

Hi

Wonder if someone can help...please forgi ve my lack of 'mobile-phone knowledge'.

I just got a 7610. My previous phone is a 6210. The new phone cam ewith a new SIM - my old SIM aliong with around 99 of my contacs is now dead.

I backed-up all my old 6210 contacts and calendar to a PC via IR (using the Nokia Suite that came with the 6210).

I am now having trouble trying to restore this stuff to my 7610 (using Nokia PC Suite 6.1.005 which came with my 7610).

I have installed all the Suite, drivers, the USB cable etc all fine - or atleast i think so...because the PC is recognising my 7610 and the USB cable...whats happening?

Is this happening because the file format/orientation of my now ancient 'contacts and calendar' back up files is now outdated and the 7610 will not recognise them...?

Please save my thumbs from working overtime trying to retype all these contacts!!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This is Jagroop...

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Is it worth me uninstalling PC Suite 6.1 and installing PC Suite 6.2?

In other words, aside from the extra support for more nokia's mentioned on the nokia international site, will it actually allow me to transfer my 6210 contacts/calendar (csv files e.g. MS Excel)...or will things remain the same?

Thanks.

I also have all the same problems with the software. same faults, same registry entries etc...

I purchased the phone particulary as it come with the lead etc..

Come on Nokia, pull your finger our and fix it

Mr Rush here,

I had the same problems transfering contacts from 6210 to 7610...

The way to solve it is to synchronise 6210 with Microsoft Outlook (or one of the other options). You can then re-sync with 7610 from outlook... It is the only way I know of.

There is still a bit of editting required after they transfer because 7610 has many more options (ie last name, first name, etc), but it does keep all details for each contact.

cheers,
Mr Rush

I had the same problem with my XP laptop. Installed on another laptop with Win2k. No problem.

Yesterday bought a Dlink bt usb adaptor. Removed pc suite from xp laptop and install dlink software. after that, install pc suite again and it works for both usb and bt. amazing!!!! version 6.2

hope this helps.

Howdy all and anyone. I had exactly the same problem with the first post of this thread, and found this page as the first result in Google when searching for [nokia pc suite imediacontrol2].

I've had some luck with a solution so I thought I'd share/confirm what others had suggested. The summary is that I just uninstalled Nokia PC Suite 6.2, restarted my machine and reinstalled, plugged the data cable to the PC, then cable to phone, phone started charging and then ran one of the Suite apps, checking the connection, and there was IR and serial available. If you want the details though, read on.

- My sitcho
I originally had Nokia PC Suite 5.64 for my Nokia 3210 via InfraRed on WindowsXP. It was ok, but every now and then the Nokia 5.64 apps would crash, especially Phone Book Editor for editing contacts and messages. Just lately I have been getting wierd errors from what looks like the C++ that they've written it in (CLanguageModule etc), and can't get to the software or the system tray 'little phoney thing'. Anyways, I bought myself a non-Nokia serial-to-USB cable for a little faster/more stable connection (and charging) and happened to check Nokia to find they'd released a new version of the PC Suite.

- Uninstalling PC Suite 5.64
I went to uninstall Nokia PC Suite 5.64, but for some reason my install of 5.64 didn't have its own uninstaller, or an entry in Windows' Add/Remove. I even went to check the system tray phone connection manager and it just consistently gave me the language errors and error dialogue boxes from before.

I had to do the dirty. I checked the currently running services (in Task Manager - Ctrl Shift Esc or right-click the taskbar - Task Manager). I spied nclTray.exe and guessed it meant Nokia client tray, and killed it. The little phoney thing disappeared when I hovered my mouse over it. One down. I tried to delete the Nokia directory in Program Files, but it said things were still in use. Because of this thread I saw to take out DataLayer aswell. Then I could delete it. I then ran the Nokia registry cleaner to see if it knew about un-registering old Nokia PC Suite components, but it said that there was nothing removed. Must just be for known knew version keys. Unfortunately that's as much as I could do for uninstalling PC Suite 5.64 the dirty way, until it's time for me to do a full system reinstall.

- Installing Nokie PC Suite 6.2
Grabbed it from the Nokia website, installed fine, couldn't see an explicit connection management applet, but found a connection menu on one of the applications. I checked the connection but then got the aforementioned error message about the connection failing, mentioning IMediaControl2. Having just successfully installed my non-Nokia data cable with no problems, I was hoping it wasn't that. I tried the Nokie PC Suite 6.2 Uninstall, and it gave the option to Repair, which I tried, but still the same message. I finally just uninstalled it all, restarted my machine and installed again. I opened a random application from the suite and checked the connection menu, and there was IR and serial available. Done.

It has been frustrating, sometimes, trying to debug these problems, so hopefully some of this rant might help someone else.
