What is the best bitrate to encode a mp3 that i want to send to my phone? Considering that fact that it is mono and other stuff. Also a smaller bitrate takes less space on the mmc, but how low can you go?
Mp3 bitrate

I use Musicmatch and it can go as low as 48kbps lower than that is very am radio sounding. Then i switched to dbpoweramp setting it to 45kbps and using 16000hz sampling. MP3s a lil over 1mb per song. I think sampling can also go under 8000hz. dbpower amp music converter is free compared to music match.
what player do you use for your 3650?
How about trying .ogg vorbis instead of mp3. I think it has better compression vis-a-vis sound quality. I just dont know If there is a player for this type of file for 3650.

For me its still mp3, ive tried ogg but the thing is that not much compression is saved compared to my mp3 resampling. Besides i like Ultramp3 better with the nice skins and all. 🙄
As for the ogg player, its called oggplay. I have 1.0 on mine. 😃
I also have ultramp3 installed. I use easy cd-da extractor which has a subprogram called : easy audio file converter. With this program i converted the mp3 to 56kbps at 44.1 khz which sound good. Haven't tried other bitrate though. It takes about 1.5 mb per song (3 -4 minutes)

If you have a big mmc thats just about fine, in my opinion. 😃 Try encoding the same song to 48kbps and try to notice the size and quality. 😉
I have 128 MB mmc. It is just fine. I only have about 19 songs on it and about 90 mb free memory. I'll try to encode to 48 to see if there is any difference
i just bought a 3660 and i learned that its only capable of mono output. i think i'll not be using my fone for music.
I am an ipaq user and I have gsplayer which is probably the best software in ppc for listening to either mp3 or ogg. i converted "crushing day" by joe sat. to mp3 and ogg both set at 64kbps at 44khz and one would really notice that ogg sounds better.
a little off-topic, is there sush a thing as "hard reset" like that on my ipaq on the 3660, and not just the "restore factory setting" i see in my fone? thanks.

(by the way u gotta very creative name, Kamalayan. Im thinking of logging in as "DIWA"!!!
Anyways, m sorry to have posted my question regarding "hard reset", i tried the search button but i guess there's a different term for that in series 60.

Did it occured to you that the ipaq MAY have a different sound projection than the 3660? Anyway, thanks for the name compliment.
On my 3660, gotta be ogg. 56kbps @ 16khz. Far better quality v size than any mp3. Get oggplay, oggdrop and dbpoweramp, oggplay to listen, oggdrop for wav to ogg, and db for mp3 to wav. About 1.4mb for a 3 1/2 min song.
