I've read the latest threads on connecting the N-Gage via Bluetooth to the computer in order to use the computers internet connection - thereby surfing "for free". It seems to me that I need to use the PC Suite. But I've found this guide - that doesn't require the use of PC Suite. Do you think it will work just as well?

To do this you will require a bluetooth adapter for your pc.
1)Install bluetooth software on PC
2)Go to your bluetooth software menu, click on View or modify configuration, click on Local services,
and look at Bluetooth port, click on properties and make sure it starts automaticlly
3)Next set services provided for the N-gage, to use a serial port.
4)ENSURE bluetooth port number on the N-Gage and the PC are IDENTICAL
Hopefully now you should be able to connect to your computer.
The bluetooth icon in your task bar should animate if this is succesful.
To Set up Connection Sharing For the N-Gage -
To to N-Gage settings menu and make a new GPRS connection, here are the settings:
GPRS Connection : When Available
Accesspoint: (your computer's BT name exactly as it is)
After this go the Access Points menu, and make a new access point, here are the settings:
Connection name= (whatever you want to call it)
Data Bearer=GPRS
Access Point name= (your new accesspoint you've just created)
leave everything else at default.
Open Browser and TADA internet
note > If Opera asks you for a connection, choose the bluetooth one
Hey have you tried it out yet? What Bluetooth dongle are you using?
This is exactly what I want to do with my phone. I dont plan on activating it with a cellular service, and Id like to surf at home (while Im on the can or whatever). I searched around here and all I found was GhostDog telling people use the search, people saying they used the search and couldnt find anything, and people who cant get PCSuite to work with their phone over Bluetooth. The QD doesnt come out here till the 28th, so itll be a while before I can try it out myself.
Hi. Sorry to disappoint you. I found out that this was the way to do it WITH PC Suite. So that when you've installed PC Suite, then you can use this configuration - and it works.
I use a D-Link DBT 120 Bluetooth adapter. But I've had so many problems with it. Finally I got it to work. What is your PC Suite problem?

Well, at least we have a good "How To" now. Do you know what Bluetooth stack that D-Link uses by chance?
I dont have PC Suite problems yet, as I have to wait until the 27th to get my NGage. Im getting a QD, and Ive been doing a lot of research on S60 phones, thats why Ive been lurking about here. Anyway, its a MUST that I get the PCSuite to work, because sharing my DSL is a big part of why Im getting a NGage. That and so I can send movies to it to watch while Im at work. 😉
If you by bluetooth stack mean the driver, then D-Link use the Widcomm-drivers supperted by PC Suite.
It's not too easy to make it work though. But I've found the necessary guides on this web-site:

I have been trying to access the internet connection via my BT dongle, but failing miserably. I have a nokia n-gage. The only clue I have found so far is the item 4 in your list. the serial port number in the client applicaton tab (on my computer) is port 4 whereas the serial port service com port on my local service tab (on my computer) is port 3. The available options in the drop-down box for the local services is only port 3. So could you please tell me how I may ensure that the port number on my phone is the same as the port in the computer?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
