What about aac music?

Hi all.

I own a QD and I'm disappointed with the quality of mp3 music (I know, I know... I must have bought the original NG) so I'm trying any mp3 player I found, including the ogg player but... What about aac?. I mean, Realplayer can play video with aac audio. Can I play audio files with it?. Will the quality of sound better than mp3 players?. I would like try by myself but my gage is currently at Nokia Service (it can't boot!) 😞

Anyway, whats the best quality QD sound chip can play?. What's the better parameters for coding a mp3?. I know it's mono and only 16000 Khz but which bitrate is the maximun noticiable?. How can I improve the bass?. I recently bough a better earphones (Sony EX-71). It sounds amazing with all devices but the QD 😞

I'm not sure, but i think the max bitrate in the QD is 16kbps...

Yes I think thats right. The QD isn't a great music machine. Ogg sounds ok, but its mono at 16 kbps so it is limited. I've found Helox to be quite good for MP3 playback myself.

Ouch!. 16kbps!!! Really??

Anyone can confirm that?.

At least I'll be able to store a lot of music in my 128 Mb MMC...

I own the original n-gage. Playback of any audio through RealOne or Helix player sounds terrible compared to nokia's preinstalled mp3 player.

I have an original NGage, and plan on getting a QD soon, and if someone could post the following on this thread, I would be very grateful:

1.) Max bitrate of music files for QD
2.) Best music format for QD (in terms of quality)
3.) Best music player for QD
4.) Best music converter for QD (if it differs from NMMC 2.0)

Thanks!

1.) Max bitrate for MP3's is 32khz and 16kbps, anything more is a waste of space as u can't hear the difference with the QD
2.) Quality-wise all of them sound as good/bad at these bitrates, so it boils down to size rather than quality
3.) I used to use the free Realone, sucked coz there wasn't a playlist but it was free. Switched to UltraMP3! and love it.
4.) For Realmedia files i used Real Producer 10 Basic at the Mobile Player Audience config, for Mp3's i used WinLAME convertor to reduce the quality of my MP3s.

I own an N-Gage QD, and so far my disatisfaction has stemmed from the multitude of phone-related problems (such as system errors) rather than the features of the phone. UltraMP3's biggest pro is that it hardly uses any battery, for the heck of it i left it to play even though i wasn't listening to it and it played my whole playlist almost three times be4 giving up from full battery to nothing. I have about 90+ songs in my 128MB card, both MP3's and .mods .

Is there any hint/clue to improve the quality of sound. I.E. better bass?

For mono, not really, it depends on the normalization of the original MP3. So if your original song has heavy bass to start with u'd hear it in mono, otherwise your guess is as good as mine.
But to boost it "artificially" you could try using MP3 Player for Series60 from Handango.com, that particular program has an equalizer you can custom configure to boost bass.
Not sure how hard you can push the QD speakers till it starts to crackle from too much bass though.

Thanks Dr@gon but i'm not intended to play trough the QD speakers but my new earphones. I don't see the point playing otherwise.

I see... the Sony EX-71 plug will fit into the plug for N-Gage QD? I haven't checked but it will have to be the Micro-plug size, not the standard plug size right?
If that's the case, u'll probably want to get MP3 Player for Series 60 from Handango, that program has an equalizer that i suspect you'll like a lot 😊
Oh btw, the nick's Dr@n|xX, its just a fancy way of saying dranixx. 😃

wot ?

I think there is some confusion here....

1 thing is to have 16khz resolution @ the QD hardware

1 thing is to use 32 KHz sampling frequence (strictly related to the above)

and one other thing is to use 16 Kbit/s which is really tooooooo low !!
TOO LOW !!! Have u ever heard 16 Kbit/s ? It's just sufficient for voice... not music!

Are u sure what are u saying ? I was almost to buy a QD, but , hey, mono and 16Khz is ok (sob what an error by nokia) but 16 Kbit/s not !!!
