Nokia 6600 and MAC OS X

Hi,

I just got a Nokia 6600 and I would like to see the file structure from my Powerbook. So, basically, I would like to somehow log into my 6600 from the powerbook, erase and add applications, manually delete contacts, and read messages etc.

Currently, if I send files to the 6600, they are sent in as emails, and the Symbian OS moves them around. This sucks!! I want to do things directly.

The bad news is that browsing isn't supported so you can't really do it (you can send like one file using the panther interface). The good news is that if you use a card reader you can do what you want. It's best to use the memory app to backup your phone to your card and then use diskcopy/util/roxio/whatever to make an image of the card for complete backup purposes. isync should take care of your deletion issues as much as possible. You DON'T want to add applications using anything other than the built in phone installer if you want reliability removing them in the event of problems so that's the best thing to use hands down. As far as reading messages, the nokia system is cryptic as possible. Download fexplorer (free app for your phone) and dig around in your inbox. You'll see what I mean. DRM. I think it's a binary or proprietary index file that maps to the mail area. The next version of fexplorer should do this for you. Bluephonemenu (IIRC freeware) is better at showing info than addressbook (doesn't really work) just set the ring or notify setting to 1 or 3 or 5 or something (it's not difficult) and you will enjoy it. Salling clicker can't be beat for control and is the one app I've bought (I haven't pirated anything). If you want to send a ton of stuff too your phone use zipman (best solution so far). If you get like 2k speed you have the apple human interface patch. For higher speed try running the bluetooth sharing scipts (look on versiontracker) before a transfer as these interface with the mrouter application in the sync framework (which is what the nokia pc suite does) and will increase your transfers speed astronomically. Read the WHOLE thread on the Apple discussion board on isync and 6600 (the long one) I put a lot of answers up there (graphics formats etc).
good luck and enjoy your phone.
