i went to a tradeshow yesterday and managed to see a p800 in action, i asked the guy who worked at sonyericsson who had it and he said that it will be released under Q4 2002 and that the information regarding the developer-toolkits on the homepage were wrong, it WILL be free. they had (as he said) around 4 toolkits available for free on their page and that did NOT include the java toolkits.
p800 development news
the release date is set to next year
It's available now, from SE here:
http://www.ericsson.com/mobilityworld/sub/open/technologies/epoc/tools/7_uiq?PU=epoc&PUname=Symbian%20OS&PUCat=technologies
😃
saw the news after i posted it 😊

In the developer download section of SE you can read:
"... it also includes a UIQ emulator, which requires CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS to run C++ applications"
CodeWarrior isn't free! And without the emulator you can't do much! 😞
I think this is a bad mistake of SE not to release the Developer Kit for free (or maybe for only a small amount). A platform can only live with it's software, and most of software is written by independant or private developers (like Me). I don't think there will be many private developers with a dev-kit price of nearly $1000,-!
Therefore the platform sells bad - and if the platform sells bad, the bigger companys (which have the funds to buy the devkit) will also not write software! It's a vicious circle!
How do you think about it?
Greetings,
Martin
