Its a dual earphone handsfree kit, and no you dont have to put the phone to your ear...you just press the button on the handsfree to answer and talk to calls.

It works great as a handsfree kit. I use it in the car all the time (blah blah, flame me about using cellphones while driving, etc.) and it works great.

To answer, just press the button (dangling below your ear) when your phone rings.

Once you get voice tags setup for voice-activated calling, just hold down the button until you hear the chime, then say the name. Takes all of 5 seconds and doesn't require taking your eyes off the road.
