Unfortunatly you can not install themes in the way you can on a 6600, however there are some work arounds..

You can get smartlauncher, which themes up the menu of the QD, and is quite costumizable..

Then there is an appication coming out soon, which is called the Themeriser, which uses 6600 theme install .sis's to create mini-themes for the 3650,N-Gage, QD and 7650...

That program is about half way done i think..so its all a matter of time,

Still, it would of been nice for Nokia to put theme support on the QD and not just change the standard application icons.. :?

I work in the telecommunications industry and according to the Nokia N-Gage QD promotional sales guide my Nokia rep gave me, the N-Gage QD DOES in fact support themes, just like on the Nokia 6600! As this is the only place I have heard this though, I have my doubts as to the accuracy of this statement, but at least I'll be able to confirm this with 100% accuracy soon- I'm buying an N-Gage QD in about 10 days (when I get my tax return back)!

Here is the EXACT wording in my "Nokia N-Gage QD Sales Guide," which is given to various people in the telecommunications industry...

So to answer your question, yes, the N-Gage QD DOES have themes like on the 6600, and that's directly from Nokia! You may find that you have to download themes made specifically for the N-Gage QD though, rather than the ones made for the 6600... Or they may use the same themes. I can't answer THAT question until I get MY N-Gage QD (see above)...

No, it does not. The QD and the original are both running Symbian 6.1/Series 60 1.x which does NOT have support for themes, unlike the 6600/7610 which is running Symbian 7.0s/Series 60 2.x with themes support.

Didn't you see what my N-Gage QD sales guide said above? That was given to me by my Nokia rep and for obvious reasons, I think Nokia know more about the QD than you do!

CybaCowboy wrote:I think Nokia know more about the QD than you do!

Obviously not. You (and your Nokia guy) should read up on the links I provided in my previous post.

You may believe whatever you want, but I'm still right. 😉

Well that promotional guide I was quoting from was given to HUNDREDS of people in the Australian industry including dealers, sales reps and others... Which leads me to believe that either YOU'RE wrong or Nokia have made a BIG, BIG typo, which in turn has passed incorrect information to LOTS of people in the Australian industry! As I also pointed out above, I'll be buying a QD myself in about a week, so at that time I'll see who is right and who is wrong (I REALLY hope YOU'RE wrong though, because I REALLY, REALLY want themes!)...

Sorry to say, you will be disappointed.

Here's a few OFFICIAL quotes from Nokia and Symbian to prove my statement:

The Series 60 Theme Studio can be used to create themes for Series 60 Developer Platform 2.0(or later) devices such as the Nokia 6600, Nokia 6620 and Nokia 7610 mobile phones.

That said, when you unlock the other colour scemes on the QD, the unlocked ones are different to that of the other three, that you get as standard. There are noticable differences in the bar that goes across the top of menus and stuff, something that we have never seen on the other series 60 1.0 devices. Its wishfull thinking but I reckon there might be QD only themes that might come out...

Yeah, I know the QD has a slightly different colour scheme, but it still doesn't support installable themes like the 6600 etc.

The Siemens SX1 and Sendo X also use a different colour scheme than the standard S60 one.

It's the same situation with the P800 and P900. The P800 uses UIQ 2.0 without theme support, while the P900 uses the newer UIQ 2.1 version WITH theme support. There is however a software company that has made an app for the P800 called Magic Themes that enables the P800 to also have themes. I've asked the developers about any possibilities of porting the program over to S60, but they said they didn't have any such plans. If you all send them an e-mail, perhaps they'd consider it then, if the demand is high... Worth a try at least 😊

Yeah we could all sign a petition

Haha... i'm just waiting for Themerizer to be done. Looks really promising.
Wouldn't mind if there could be more competition with Themerizer to keep them on their toes and strive to make Themerizer the best program etc. :P

Btw, hope i'm not detecting bad blood between Raven and CybaCowboy =/

I apologize Raven- I got my QD today and it seems that Nokia have made a BIG typo in claiming that the QD supports themes... There is NO (I repeat, NO) theme support on the QD out-of-the-box! Damn!

No Dr@n|xX, just a slight dis-agreement...

I'm not surprised that Nokia made an error in their promotional material. Companies tend to do that sort of thing all the time - especially telecom companies!

I used to develop software at one, and marketing sold a product to the customer that we didn't even make yet. Lucky me, I was the summer student, so I got the crap project that no one wanted to work on.

So with that said, NEVER EVER believe marketing reps or promotional materials. It's full of half-truths and well-wishing ideas that will never make it to the final product.

I have been giving the idea of N-gage themes a lot of thought recently and also been thinking of all the work arounds that people could do to compensate not being able to make or have themes on the N-gage or QD. Something that did interest me the other day is that, that Nokia have the idea of themes and colour schemes in mind as to every possible QD casing/ housing that Nokia have brought out there is a colour scheme on the QD's to match the colours of the housing.

Think about this for a second, there are two main QD casings out as far as I am aware, the mainly orange coloured one and a mainly grey coloured one.

The grey one

The orange one

Now with these two cases/housing the colour scheme looks fine as either orange or magenta, magenta looking slightly more geared towards the grey and black one and the orange probably looking better on the orange housing QD.

Now those two schemes, being the standard looking ones are really half as interesting when you look at the other two cases/housings you can buy made by Nokia, the black and red casing and the brown and light blue casing, as seen from these pics:

:icon1: The blue and brown one

And this one

:icon1: The black and red one

Now I don’t know about you guys but I'm seeing a bit of a match of colours going on with the grey colour scheme on the QD with the second casing out of those pics. Also if any of you out there have used the palette extender app on the QD you will know of the #Nokia r&d 4 colour scheme which uses the colours blue, light brow and red....mmmm im seeing a slight resemblance between the blue and brown casing and the #Nokia r&d 4 colour scheme don’t you all think.

Right that’s my 2 cents on that little thing I found out for myself.

The other two schemes that are unlocked via palette extender, the all pink scheme and the all red scheme don’t have a casing as yet and that said I don’t think that Nokia will bring out a complete pink or red one as thats would be a little silly and the fact that with the selected scheme/palette you get the dodgy red or pink icons that make the menu's look rubbish.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Gee, those covers look pretty cool... I want the red & black one!
