GPRS I don;t get it!!!

So i got my 7610, it had a connection software application pre installed, so I run this and it creates 3 access points:-
-Vodafone Live!
-Vodafone MMS
-Voda GPRS ISP

OK I understand this so far, I then open the icon titled 'Web' and I can see a load of available bookmarks including software market i clickthis and it says connection needed, do you wan to connect? so i answer yes, then it just sits on the connection screen trying to connect to Vodafone Live!

What am I doing wrong, is this how you access the web?
what are the 3 access points used for? don't i just need one?
is Opera bettr to use, to access pages via Opera do I open a portal?

I had that problem, i take it you have tried restarting the phone. go to vodafone.co.uk and you can send the settings to you phone that are spercific to your account and you need Vodafone Live for GPRS and Vodafone MMS for messaging

Yeah I restarted a couple of times, I can now get a 'G' to appear on the signal strength bar, and when in the 'web' applet I can see a page spinning around the globe at the top, but nothing opens.

How do I close a GPRS connection as well?

Whats the voda GPRS ISP connection?

Is the 'web' applet the standard browser to use for accessing the web?, and does Opera just expand on that?

Just a thought. Have you checked this. Open Web Services from Menu. Then take Options and scroll to Settings and see if you have the correct Accesspoint set as default.

I dont have Vodafone, I have Telia here in Sweden but Telia has a similiar service as Vodafone Live called Telia Go. When I tried to use a direct access to Telia Go it failed all the time. I spoke to Telia and they said the Nokia 7610 was too new and they were working for support on that model. I solved my problem like this - I used the usual settings for GPRS (check also that you have the correct startpage) and then I put in a bookmark to Telia Go. It worked for me but as I told you, this was Telia but maybe it could be worth a try. And by the way, I did not use the preinstalled app at the phone to configure the phone I took the settings by SMS directly from the provider.

Okey Dokey,

to be honest I don't know if I'm doing it correctly. could you run me through step by step how to connect to a page using the 'web' applet?

Like I said I can get the 'G' to apprear on the signal strength bar, does that mean I'm connected to the GPRS network? If so how do I disconnect the only way I can find to do it at the moment is to switch off the phone.

If you can see a G with a square around, then you are connected. If you want to go to a website from Webservices, open it and choose Options-Navigation-Go to.... and type in the adress.

To disconnect you just hold down the "End the call-button".

Hmmm, now all i get is 'GPRS not available, check services'

I used to get
flashing 'G'
then solid 'G'
then 'G' with a box around it

what does the solid 'G' mean

I'm going to go back to the vodafone store tomorrow

Hi again,

The solid G is an before established connection mode. I beleive they would help you at the Vodafone store with the correct settings and I wish you a nice day !

thats what i thought, vodafone direct think it may be a shady sim card, so hopefully at least they'll be able to check it in another phone for me.

Thanks for your help

Same problem with Vodafone. with my N-Gage and 3650 i had no problem to connect. now i get 'Unable to perform operation'.
