i have a symbol on my n-gage which look like an arrow with a line underneath and it has been on for ages and i dont know what it is
Problem

It means that you have messages in your outbox waiting to be sent... It'll disappear once all of your messages have been successfully sent.

Yep, CybaCowboy said it right. If the symbol has been there for very long, it means you have sms that didn't send successfully. You'll want to go to your messaging, check in your outbox for mails that were not sent. You can choose to try to send them again or delete them, once done the symbol will go away automatically.
