'Water' stroke of luck

Hi, this is just a random story I thought I'd share with other 6600 users...

I went swimming the other day, but forgot to take my nice N6600 out of my pocket (oops :frown😊. I didn't notice until I'd swam about two lenghts and the phone had (as you may suspect) totally flooded and saturated. The screen was filled with water and the phone had (naturally) turned itself off.

A little phased by this, I put the phone in my locker to dry out and later that evening I attempted to turn it back on. Of course, nothing happened. So, I thought I'd leave it on top of my PC over night and try it the next morning.

It turned on. It didn't get past the "Nokia" screen, but it did something. Still unphased, I decided to leave it a bit longer... so that afternoon, I switched it back on and it loaded and everything. The camera, menu's etc all worked perfectly... except I had no signal at all, no matter where I was.

Today (two days later) I have a (nearly) perfectly working Nokia 6600 that gets full signal and works just as new... The screen is mostly dried out (it's still a tiny bit weird in the corner, but this is disapearing quickly). The *ONLY* things wrong with it are:
* Loudspeaker has gone ultra-quiet - I can only hear it if I put my ear right next to it. This worked a while back, so I'm hoping it'll fix itself soon enough
* It sometimes randomly loses signal (very rarely). This is happening less frequently now it's dried out
* I don't think vibration mode is working, although I'm not totally sure of this, as I've not recieved a call when it's not been plugged in today.

So there you have it. The moral of the story is that Nokia 6600's are for idiots and totally waterproof 😃

Sorry about the rambled first message!

Also it is now very clean! 😃

A similar thing happened to me a little while back.
I was just in a toilet cubicle, but my 6600 wasn't sucurely fixed to my belt and fell into the bowl of the toilet 😮 . Knowing that water and electrical currents don't mix very well, I quickly grabbed the phone out (it was clean water in there before you all go ugh!}, I automatically took it out of its case, removed the back plate and the battery, sim and mmc, all in a few seconds.
I left it somewhere to dry, but it wasn't drying quick enough. So after most of the water had dripped off I looked for the warmest piece of electrical equipment in the house, because I knew the heat wouldn't be of melting the phone type temperature, which turned out to be the sattelite reciever, and I put it on there for a few days.
When I put it all back together and turned it on, everything was working, there was a little bit of moisture in the screen but that didn't last long.
I put it all down to it not being in the water too long, the case helping to prvent water seepage and the removall of the battery so quickly.
Please do not attempt to replicate the above circumstances on purpose, just to see if it works :icon14:

You're both lucky that the magnetic signal didn't scramble your phones, i got a phone wet once (not my beloved 6600 thankfully), i stripped it of all removable bits - sim, mmc, battery and covers - wrapped it in a really thick huge towel and left it on radiator, although i hear the airing cupboard works just as well!

Just a word of warning that damage can occur later if rust starts to corrode some of the circuits or joins two points up that shouldnt be connected. Ideally take it to a service centre for a clean up BUT there again IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.
