NONE of Australia's networks allow pre-paid/pay and go customers to use an Internet Access Point (IAP), which the N-Gage Arena Launcher requires in order to function... Does anyone know a work-around that will allow me to use the N-Gage Arena Launcher with a standard GPRS connection?

Hey cybacow, i'm not sure about arena as i have an original ngage. But i used to be able to log into the arena function on tony hawk with vodafone prepaid. I find using the other servers like mms etc works for things. Eg i use opera on virgin prepaid by using the mmc server and using it as the proxy. Does this make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. Have you had any luck getting the built-in E-Mail client to work? That requires an IAP also...
I'm on virgin now and havn't played around much with it. But I havn't had much luck with the email on it yet. I will buy another Vodafone card in a couple of days and try it then.

just had a thought mate. You can use gsm to connect to the net through a normal ppp acount. You tried doing that and trying email and arena?

Great idea, but in Australia, Circuit Switched Data (CSD) connections are really expensive and, considering I would spend a large amount of time on N-Gage.com's message boards if I was using the N-Gage Arena Launcher, this is not an option at this stage...

vodafone doesn't work Primax- I've tried EVERY possible configuration and had no luck with the N-Gage Arena Launcher or the E-Mail client! vodafone DOES have its advantages however... For example, the (in-game) N-Gage Arena works using the default "vodafone live!" settings; Opera and NetFront can be used by making the standard proxy/port 8080 adjustment to Opera and or NetFront's settings (if you don't know what this is, ask me & I'll walk you through it)!

Sorry, I lied- I haven't tried using a CSD connection (which in theory should work) due to how expensive it is. So if you're willing to pay significantly for it Primax, a CSD connection may work for you...

I also had realone running thru vodafone. Surprises me that arena doesnt work. I also would have thought using ppp would only cost what your normal call costs on your pricing plan. If you could explain to of why it doesnt i would appreciate it.

Yeah, RealOne Player works fine with the standard "vodafone live!" settings... A CSD connection costs me 60c per minute (my regular call rate) and considering that I would spend large amounts of time using the N-Gage Arena Launcher, this is really quickly going to become VERY, VERY expensive!
so it is regular call rate. optus prepaid has deals all the time 20c flagfall then like 15c for 15mins to any landline. I believe this deal is still on now. This is something I have been thinking about doing for a while now. This would work yes?

Optus' current offer is "30 for 10 Night," which gives you the first ten minutes to ANY Australian mobile phone for only 30c at night! I see what you're saying and it's a BRILLIANT idea... If you have an account with an ISP (which I don't)! Anyway, in theory it should work, although being a CSD connection, it would be REALLY slow... I tried connecting with Virgin and tried all sorts of tricks, to no avail!

I swear, it's just Nokia- they're out to get me and don't want me to EVER use the N-Gage Arena Launcher! LOL
