Help in selecting bluetooth headset

Hello all, after going through previous posts, i have narrowed to these three choices for my N6600 😊

1. Nokia HS-3W
2. Bluetrek G2
3. Jabra Freespeak BT250.

What do you guys think will be best for the 6600 in terms of battery life, quality etc. ? I have also heard that since the 6600 supports only headset profile, will both the handset and bluetooth headset ring when there is an incoming call ?

When I connect an ordinary wired handsfree, the headset icon appears, but ringing is heard in both the handsfree as well as phone. Is it the same with BT headsets also ? Please clarify. 😊

Hi eBast,
Though I'm loathed to do it IMO you should see if you can get a cheap HS-3W or perhaps even try for the newer boom-enhanced one. they support almost all that the 6600 can offer right out of the box.

I tried the Bluetrek and found it felt very flimsy and loose fitting for me. Similarly the Freespeak just felt plain uncomfortable. these are just my opinons. In terms of connectivity they all worked fine even when Nokia said that they wouldn't (?)

Nokia's are also "notorious" for being picky about how they connect with BT.

Regarding the handset and headset ringing at the same time I think that may depend on how you set up the handsfree profile and also what Nokia supports for the headset. I found that on the 6600 I'm limited to the profile settings that are engaged when I connect.

To be honest I'd suggest the plantronics m3000 as one of the best BT headsets. You get talk time of around 6-8 hours and it feels solid and reliable. Works ok with a 6600 but....it goes into a sleep mode in order to conserve power (and thereby acheive that 6-8 hour talk time). Sometimes the 6600 doesn't reconnect and so when the phone rings the headset doesn't connect.

Hope it helps.

Thanks JoshGrey, I was thinking on the same lines about the HS-3W. But Plantronics now has a new version.. the 2500 is it good ?

Awaiting more feedback from members... 😊

I also would like to know more about the issue of not ringing when in headset profile. Is it the same with plantronis headset also ?

I have further narrowed down to the HS-3W and the Bluetrek G2. 😉

I am a little skeptical about the wired HS-3W, but it has an advantage that it is discreet. However the Bluetrek unit is more advanced but a little bulky, people are sure to look at you twice if you use that 😃 .

One more doubt about the Bluetrek G2. Is its battery user replaceable like that of nokia HS-3w?

Awaiting your comments..... 😊

My G2 has horrible background noise and the conversations pop and crackle...is that just something with my G2?

One thought: make sure you don't have other devices in the 2.4GHz spetrum. Microwave ovens can hurt wireless BT transmissions too. If you have other devices talking at that freq., see if moving elsewhere helps. WiFi/AirPort is a 2.4 device, FYI.

Any way I went in for the Sony Ericsson HBH-65. So far it is performing well except it lost connection with the N6600 a couple of times. Battery life is quite decent also. 😊

I got the Jabra 250 6 months ago and it works just fine, no problems with connecting to the 6600. I decided upon it after I tried it. Works fine if you have glasses, cap or something else on your head too. Never in the way. Real tight fit. Nothing sticks out from your head or ear.

Sound is Ok, no crackling, no one ever complained to me saying that sound was bad at the other end, soundmarks and phone operation without taking it out works as expected. Easy one hand/ button operation. Havent got the profiles set yet, it rings quite loud if you forget to change it... Headset and phone wants to be on the same side of your body though...

Battery life of the headset is fine, but low in the phone when BT is on, drains the battery in a day or two. If you plan to use the phone all day for several days, you're probably better off with a cableheadset...

My conclusion. You'll be happy with the Jabra, but progress will catch up I suppose.
