If you messed up the C-drive, then reformatting will reset it to the state it was in when the phone left the factory. You'll loose all your messages, settings, apps you've installed, etc., though.

Thanks. Is there any way to move my contacts to the sim so i can format it? Or are they safely stored in another part of the fone?

you should be able to move them to a mmc card, or just sync with outlook ...
Using Vcard is also an excellent option, check http://www.symbianware.com/index.php?pl=n-gage , and try smartvcard and even smartvcal if you want to backup your calender as well.
Use smartvcard to export all your contacts to a file on the mmccard (or just save to c: and then send it to pc), after the format import them again
