Headphones problems, loudspeaker stays on

I bought a 256mb card for my 6600 and 2.5mm-3.5mm headphone adaptor so i could use my phone as an mp3 player. I realise i need to turn off the loudspeaker somehow but i can't see anywhere to do that while keeping headphones volume up at the same time.

I can see another post with a similar problem but his problem's with a headset, not headphones.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did this too... Got the adaptor from Tandy/DSE (equiv of RadioShack) here in Oz. Anyway, I gave up on this solution and just bought myself a cheap but effective HDD-1 Nokia headset which works perfectly albeit Mono.

Cheers!

Why the hell do nokia put that headphones port there?

I want to listen in stereo, any suggestions?

Just got these same headphones for my 6600 but i only seem to get sound from one earphone. Fiddled around with settings but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

The 6600 does not and will not output stereo, the jack socket on the bottom is for a hands free earpiece. If somehow plug in a pair of headphones/earbuds/something to put in each ear you will either get only one output or dual mono. The phone will mute the loudspeaker when a handsfree kit is plugged in because it knows that one is there and that the speaker is not needed, it will not recognise headphones because it was not designed for such things.
Good luck, I hope you don't end up damaging your phones.

(this topic has been covered many times before about this phone not being stereo, please use the search facility provided by the forums)

I know the 6600 doesnt output stereo sound. All im asking is how do i get sound through both earpices of the hdd-1 earphones like everyone else seems to. Ive fiddled around with phone settings but no luck.

My response was to the original and other posters.
As to how you get dual mono with that headset, my only guess is that they are using a mono adaptor or there is a short somewhere, I don't now what damage this could be doing to the phone as the the three conacts on the phones 2.5mm socket are for the earpiece and the microphone, it also detects the press of the answer button, so although low level you are still sending signals or shorting paths that are not meant to be.
