i just send my 9210 to nokia(here in bombay, india) to get the new firmware. I had 3.54 7 thought i would get 3.62, but i have just checked...it shows V 4.10.
is that the latest version? i have to use it more to see if its better & if there are any problems in it. Lets see.
cioa!!!

It's not available for customers in here (don't know why) but they are testing 4.11 here... if there's something in 4.10 so they may fix it to .11?
with 4.10 , my task manager is giving me problems. then my phone hung & since then ive been trying to start it but the nokia 2 hands screen comes up & then nothing happens, it just keeps restarting itself..over & over again.
Is'nt there a ctrl+shift+something... when u start....does any1 know. i had done it earlier once but dont remember the command.
help!!
gaurav
It was Ctrl+Shift+I what deletes your .ini files (some of your settings goes...like internet settings)
Try that before formatting..[ This Message was edited by JeP on 2001-11-27 0953 ]
thanks a lot for that. It asked me to confirm the detetion of the ini files & i said ok. then the start up screen came up & stayed for some time...& then it just went blank & restarted all over again...& it just keeps doing that....now im frustrated & im going back to nokia...to give them a piece of my mind.
luckily i had backed up everything just last night.
anyways thanks for that.
gaurav
This is an issue with TaskManager rather than the latest firmware. Users of 3.62 reported this problem as well.
Your best bet would be to uninstall TaskManager until its updated to 4.x.
I think it's coming from taskmanager or am i wrong?
Have you formatted it yet?
(That 4.10 is probably only for APAC.)
Regards
i knew i should have not got the frimware upgraded
i had a gutt feeling that my 3.54 was quite stable. anyways to uninstall it also i have to first get the phone/pda started, but does not seem to be hapening. i guess nokia people are going to format the whole thing...lets see what they say.
shucks i loved task manager....i cannot make myself to go ahead with the uninstall.
gaurav
Ctrl+Shift+F dont do anything? then it's really stuck and only way is upgrade.. or downgrade to 3.62 if it's possible in there.
Regards
To format
remove the battery for 30 secs.
Re-insert battery
hold down Ctrl+Shiff while you re-inserting the battery, then keep pressing F. You should get a text message asking you to format.
You may need to try this a few times before you get the format message.
Thanks a lot guys. I kept trying it a few times & the format worked (finally this time) , Now to load the device software.....i think i will not load task manager & see how it runs. & also try it with it later & see the difference.
Oh by the way i am also going to try & use a headset with the ear piece chopped off & then connect it to the end of a tape converter to play mp3 on the phone & listen to it thru my car's tape player. let me see how clear it is.
will be sending in all the photos also.
will keep u all posted if it sounds good. Only downside is that is gonna be MONO. But i know there a small circuit available that can convert the mono signal to a stereo effect. Hope i can find it.
gaurav
So is anyone going to tell me what version 4.10 of the firmware has in it.
Zuber
there definately one thing ive realised. its got much better & smoother syncronization with outlook & basically the computer. as & when i don some to know more i will post t here.
gaurav
Dont know what 4.10 has in it. No doubt we will find out soon. At least one function is to allow software to answer an incoming call. This allows software such as answer machine to work.

So....how stable is the 9210 with the new firmware upgrades....
I seem to be reading alot on the forum about issues and problems with the 9210...
and I am wondering whether or not to fork out the money to buy the 9210.....
Are you guys happy with the 9210?
The very nature of such forums is that you hear about the problems rather than the good things. Perhaps you should bare that in mind. Most people seem happy with their 9210 and so far stability has improved with each firmware release.

Tks Rafe....I thought that may have been the case.....I know in Adelaide, Australia where I live....they are selling like 'hot cakes' and they can't get enough of them in the stores....
I must say, that as a past Palm and Ipaq user....this machine looks great!
one more thing really good about 4.10 is that the phone side menus run really fast now & not as slow as it used to run previously.
as & when i find out more i will kep u all posted.
gaurav
Yep they do seem to be selling fast. From what I have been told we make be looking at Sales of 500,000 for the first half of the year. When that open to the US we are talking serious numbers...
I think the 9210 greatest strength is the integration and the Symbian OS, for serious mobile users (i.e. those who want to use programs like sheet and word) there isn't really anything to compare with it on the market. Sure they need to sort out the memory problems and yes USB and HSCD would be nice.. But I dont think we'll have to wait too long...

Rafe, totally agree with your thoughts - word and excel are the main attractions for me plus the look and feel of the calendar views, etc...for me to buy the 9210.
Another question - With the USB and other stuff, do you think they would be available on the current model (being upgradable) rather than having to buy a newer model, etc...that's my only real concern (which is normal with pda's and technology).
Buy something today and then find out tomorrow that there is another model being released with all the issues fixed, etc....hopefully the 9210 is able to be upgraded via firmware and addons like USB.
Your thoughts?

I think it is true of everything that there will be something better available sometime in the future. You could put off a purchase for ever because of this. That sais I wouldn't be suprised to see an upgraded 9210 sometime next year (maybe in conjunction with the 9290)
I doubt that the current hardware can be upgraded to things such as USB, bluetooth via a battery (maybe).
What you should get is software via the web and firmware. Already is this thread we have seen how it is likely that MMS will be supported from firmware 4.xx onwards along with answer phone software.
hi gaurav i am from bombay too my name is mustapha and if u have been going to dadar nokia care center good if u tell them my name you will me shocked i have not only called the ceo of nokia in finland but also the vp the president and all and i gave them my mind not only a peice. They changed my phone atleast 5 to times for me email me at [email protected][email protected] and will let u kow much more
good to see some more people in bombay, interested in doing the right thing & not hesitating in giving their opinion. anwyays yes i do go to the dadar nokia centre, i think they are very under staffed & very slow. but we have no other choice, i think we should set up our own nokia authorised centre with a more professional attitude & also their should be an official nokia forum for india.
i did email u also. where in bombay do u stay...probably we should meet.
gaurav
i just bought colors yesterday & installed it on my 9210. the 4.10 version is yet very jittery & colors is not running too well with it. i hear the 4.11 version will be available in just a few days. lets hope its more stable. sometimes i wish i would have not upgraded from3.54, that was a preety stable version.
any news on the 4.11, please let me know
thanks.
gaurav
How's everyones 9210 going? Pick mine up tomorrow....can hardly wait...long hard look at the Ipaq H3850 and Palm M505 but still think the 9210 has more to offer....
Do you agree guys?
you are definately right about the N9210 being the best in the market, ive used the ipaq a friend owns & believe me i definately like this one much much better.
Its everything you could imagine, i only wished it was bluetooth compatible. as far as GPRS goes, in india our network does not support those speeds but im sure it will be a huge welcome.
I have one question, if i buy a mobile phone mother board without the IMEI, which authority do have to go to to get the IMEI no, am planning to start an assmbly centre myself & wanted to know how to go about the IMEI thing.
Any help is welcome.
Thanks
Gaurav
the version 4.10 was not a tested & a proper version, it was giving me lots of problems.
it took it back to nokia & got the 3.62 version put into my phone.
They are expecting the 4.11 to come out soon. )
