playin without sim...is it possible?
No, you need a SIM card to operate the N-Gage, but it doesn't matter if the SIM card is working or not, you can use a so called "dummy" SIM card.

thanks for your response, but however when i was holidaying in Singapore (my country of residence is in India) when i was in one shop they were giving a n-gage on test to try it.. when i tried it there was a 'x' on the signal aerial icon.. so i thot it was running in some flight mode or gaming only mode.. i thought it had a 3 option startup like:
1) phone on
2) flight mode
3) gaming mode
so i began to like it thinking that u can use it as a gaming phone without sim card.. i was gettin excited about it. hope it's true! c ya all.. take care!

There are 6 profiles on the N-Gage and the N-Gage QD, 5 standard profiles (loud, discreet, silent, etc...) and 1 "offline" profile. In most cases, you would use one of the 5 standard profiles, with the "offline" profile being reserved for situations when radio communications is prohibited (eg. Whilst on a plane, in a hospital, etc...) due to the fact that it disables all radio communications (cell phone, bluetooth) on the game deck. Anyway, the device you used is a special "dummy" game deck that is distributed to authorized N-Gage dealers... The only difference between the "dummy" N-Gage/N-Gage QD and your game deck is that the "dummy" game deck is locked into the "offline" profile!

Both the N-Gage and the N-Gage QD require a SIM in order to operate, but there are work-arounds... Firstly, in some countries and/or certain stores (eg. Games stores), the N-Gage QD is sold with an N-Gage-branded "dummy" (blank) SIM. If you own the original N-Gage or your N-Gage QD didn't come with a "dummy" SIM (like mine! *cries*), remember that ANY SIM, active or inactive, will work. One common solution is to buy a pre-paid/pay as you go SIM solely for use in your game deck; once the SIM has expired, you'll still be able to use it in your game deck!
