I'm getting one tommorrow with the purchase of my new ngage qd.. but just argument sakes, is a bluetooth usb dongle worth it?
I'd love to have great networking software that can see my ngage etc and help it see streaming videos, or perhaps gain internet access while visiting my bathroom (all while in range of the bluetooth dongle attached to my home pc etc).
But are any of those hopes realistic? I've been searcing MANY different pieces of software for ngage/series 60 nokia phones etc.
I'll also have an mmc card as I'm quite computer inclined and hate waiting for lengthy downloads.. So don't worry about that part.
So far, I can see a bluetooth dongle great for smaller uploads to the qd, and perhaps sending myself funny messages or what not..
Anyone use theirs for anything more advanced/interesting?
My carrier doesn't have any attractively-priced data plans; I use Bluetooth when I want to quickly dump my email onto my phone in the morning (which integrates it nicely into the Messaging app, unlike when I use my MMC), and then write replies to people while waiting on the bus. When I get to work, I plug in my Bluetooth dongle at my PC and send all my messages off.
Sometimes it's handy to have a Bluetooth dongle available when the PC you're at doesn't have a card-reader (such as at work) but you still want to be able to check email, surf the web etc. from a distance. I can actually go to the washroom and still surf the web if I want. Or sit on the couch and check out who that actor was in the movie that's on TV using IMDB.com.
Can't say that I'm using for anything really _interesting_, but it's nevertheless a useful device. I would recommend getting one.
That's just what I wanted to hear. Sounds neat.

One thing, watch out for the WSOD (White Screen Of Death). It occurs when you send too large of a file to your QD and it runs out of memory. It is unusable after this happens, and you cannot fix it. You have to send it in to be fixed. This is only with the Bluetooth transferring, it does not happen with a card reader.
Oh, I'm wise when it comes to computers, but thanks for the heads up. 😉
I know not to exeed file limits on my mmc card. 😉
I've already got the usb dongle in my house, too.
Instead of going to the store and picking up the ngage qd today, they advised that I call in.
So I did, retain my current phone number I've had for the past oh..7+ years, have upgraded my plan to an unlimited incoming everything plan.. 😉 😉 including data. for $25 Canadian a month.
Oh, and I had some reward money saved up with my cell phone provider.. saved $117 Canadian dollars off of the price of the ngage.. originally $250.. WITHOUT contract obligations. SWEET!
So yeah, I get it in about a week, in the mail.. I don't know why I can't just go pick one up.. my current aging Nokia 3390 now has unlimited stuff for now.. 😊
