Questions before I buy...

Greetings all. First of all, great site. The FAQ and searching through the posts here has provided some great info. But I have a few questions I didn't see covered.

I'm considering buying a used N-gage. One owner, in good shape, with 128MB memory card and 4 games. The phone is currently setup for T-Mobile operation.

I've been a Sprint PCS customer for years, and unhappy with the phone selections they offer. So I'm gonna switch providers once I get the new phone. I was thinking of going with Cingular, for the rollover plan. But then realized my family and I could take advantage of the AT&T Family plans, and since MANY family members here and in other states have AT&T, we should be able to do free mobile-to-mobile calling.

Now I've read about the MB way of paying for Internet use with AT&T. That should be fine, as I'm only planning on using the internet occasionally via the cell network. Maybe look up movie times, or double check flight information while I'm outside the airport. Though that $10 / month for unlimited N-Gage internet use with T-Mobile sounds VERY interesting if I could still get in on that.

But the main issues I'm concerned about are:

1) Can I handle "unlocking" the phone so I can use it with AT&T or Cingular instead of T-Mobile? I don't want to buy it and find out I can't handle it or it can't be done.

2) How hard will it be to "configure" the phone so the Internet and other features work with the different service providers? I don't have a phone from AT&T now (for example), so I don't have a sim card I can slip out of my old phone and into the N-Gage.

Sorry about the length of the post, and my being a newbie about this stuff. But your help is extremely appreciated.

For what i'm familiar with, i do believe the answer to your first question is yes. I don't see a problem with switching to providers, everyone does that with ease since its a matter of the sim card, not the phone.
As for the second question, the answer will be yes. All you'll be needing is the new configuration settings from the new provider. I believe the N-Gage website actually has a link site that gives you the configuration settings for some of the major providers around the world, do check it out.
No worries, about being a newbie, we all started that way 😊
