Hi all,
I dun have a N-gage right now, but will buy one on my next pay day.....
before i make the decision to get it, i have read a lot frm reviews and forums, including this of cos, and it comes to my mind that many people talk about N-gage as phone/game console, seldom talk about it as a smartphone.....
but to me, N-gage as a smartphone is the major driving force to make the decision.
i am in Hong Kong, the price for Nokia 6600 is almost double of N-gage, so for almost the same in platform, why pay more.....
radio, MP3 and gaming on N-gage are bonus to me, half the price compared to nearest smartphone, USB connection to PC (what i think a must for smartphone/pda), why not N-gage???
i am now using Sagem myX6, it has a wonderful CCD digi-camera, but not much use for me, indeed, in a normal day, i just make a few phone calls with it (that's why i only have to charge the battery twice a week....) so the N-gage will give me more reasons to use it as it is not just a phone.....
anyone has similar situation? please share......
Pretty much the world over the N-Gage is about half the price of a top line Series 60 version. Two reasons for this IMO.
(1) Nokia want to sell LOTS of N-Gage's (a volume product) so it's closer to the build cost - but they'll still be making a profit on the handset - which makes you think about the mark up on something like the 7610...
(2) It is one version back of Series 60 (1.2 instead of 2.0) so you won;t have theme support, and it's MIDP1.0 not MIDP2.0, but frankly, that's not a lot to complain about. There's very little MIDP2.0 specific stuff out there, and themes are for posers 😉
iI've noticed the difference in OS version, but i guess it is not a big deal when it can get J2ME running, am i right in that??
and is it possible to have OS upgrade by Nokia (theoretically)?? some people in another forum said so.....
It might be possible to upgrade to the newer symbian OS (don't know if hardware has to change but I'm guessing it doesn't); but it will never happen (90% certainty).
As for smartphone, it can do whatever you want and it's of the same quality as all the other 7650,3660,6600 ...
It has all my calender entries and contacts synced with outlook for instance ...
It runs Opera for http://, you can get msn messenger and others ...
BTW I never had the need to install any midp application, there are plenty of genuine symbian os apps.

Me too. I wanted to get something cheap that could do Bluetooth and would work with a Bluetooth keyboard, and was a USB Mass Storage device.
Also, in Britain, mobile phones (what Americans call cellphones) are considered cool and fashionable, so unlike handheld computers, it's easy to buy bits and pieces for one in shops.
In fact, because the reviews are full of 'cool idea, bad implementation', and the fact that it's not ideal as a games machine or a phone, I was fairly sure I'd be able to pick up a secondhand unit from somebody who discarded it as unsuitable for them.
